JL 300/4 with Boston S75's?
Hello all, i registered my account here a while back when i did my system, but never got around to posting. (Fellow Canadian)
My system is a ext cab truck with 4 boston acoustics S75's running off what ever was the cheapest at the time Sony head unit. And a JL 500/1 driving two boston acoustics 10" G1's.
I ended up finding the JL 500/1 used for 400 bucks just over a year ago. In the future i want to get a better head unit, but its not a priority, so unless i find a good sale or used one it probably wont happen for a while.
Looking in the same classifieds, i found
Im decently dumb at car audio stuff, i wired my system, but had a buddy of mine do all the settings (his dad used to be a audio store manager), but he has moved, and i no longer have his advice. I found another guy selling the same stuff for 700 bucks total, so im thinking i could sell the 500/1 and make a hundred bucks or so off it, and use the 300/4 on my system.
Will the 300/4 work with my Boston S75's? If the 300/4 is too powerful, can i tone it down so it does not blow my speakers(then when i get around to it, getting speakers to use the full potential of the amp?)
What your thoughts?
I would plug his 500/1 into where my 500/1 is to make sure it worked, but is there any way to test if the 300/4 works?
Thanks
Rob

JL 300/4 $250
JL 500/1 $250
Or take both for $450.00

I just realized, my deck has 1 set of sub pre outs (used by my current 500/1) but it does not have any front or rear pre outs. Can i just plug RCA's into the pre out on the back of my 500/1 (that uses the sub pre out), then run a splitter to make it go into the front/rear RCA's on the 300/4? Big quality lose? Will it even work running a amp for speakers off a "sub pre out"?
Or am i out of luck unless i get a new deck?

Ouch, ya your pretty limited. The 300/4 doesn't have any RCA outputs either. You could use the 500/1 output, but would still only have one RCA. You could set it to 2ch and still run all 4 channels, just won't have front to rear fade.

So from reading around, can i set my deck to "rear out", run a RCA to my 500/1. Then run a RCA from the pre outs on the back of the 500/1 into a splitter (Assuming i can get one) and then run each into my 300/4?

The outputs on the 500/1 can be set to HP mode and the frequency dialed in on that amp.......a single set of RCAs to the 300/4 will feed all 4 channels there and you can use the HP filters in the 300/4 to fine tune the sound for the mids and highs....
