Jl 8w7

hey guys, just had at quick question. I have the cahnce to obtain either 1 or 2 JL audio 8W7 subs. The single one is brand new in the JL spec'd box. The pair are bnib, I was wondering if either of these setups would provide sufficient bass in a 2001 neon? Any feedback would be great.

What's sufficient? In other words...how much bass do you want or expect? If it's good, clean sound with enough to do the music justice...then yes for sure. If you want to show off a block away..probably not!

sufficient would be enough to rock the car a litle, but not enough to have the block hear me. Just don't want to buy them and not be satisfied. Would they subs be alright for all types of music, or would going to a 10 or 12 be better for a wide wide range a music. Everything from orchestral rock to classical to house and hip hop.

they wont make suffice bass without any power. look for an amp that is 1 ohm stable if you are going with a monoblock (you're looking at around 800rms @ 1 ohm) and if not, you want something that'll do 400rms @ 2 ohm per channel

rock them each in a 0.75 cubic foot sealed enclosure stuffed 50% with polyfill, and you'll be golden

Those 8's need about as much box volume as 10's do.

They'll definitely do that, can't guarantee you'll be satisfied as most folks in car audio are rarely satisfied with what they have. To give you an idea of what you have, 2 w7s move about the same volume of air as a single Alpine type r 12". This means they'll get plenty loud for music, particularly if you use a ported system, but sealed as suggested by Jalat will sound great too just not as loud. Personally, I'd pop them into a 2.5 cube polyfill stuffed (about 3lbs of polyfill) ported box tuned to about 32-36 hz and give them rated rms power. You should be happy...at least for a little while.

Those subs are quite good for the size of them.

As said previously, as long as you put them in a proper enclosure and feed them the power they need you will be fine. It would sound quite nice i'd say.

thanks for the feedback, so getting the pair is a better deal than the single one in the jl H.O box?

don't know if it's a better deal...are the two packages the same price? if so, then yeah...i'll take an extra w7 over the box anyday. Build you own box (if you can) for about 50.00 in materials to the specs you want and need, and get 6db's more output compared to a single sub and box.
