Im thinking of making an upgrade from my W4's to something a little newer.
I would like to know if anyone has heard the W7 or the W6 and what they thought and if it is worth the difference in cash?

They are good but overpriced IMHO.
If you've got the cash go for either depending on how much power you're gonna run.
For the same money, a pair of Eclipse Ti's, XXX, Inhuman, etc.......would be my choice over a single W7.

^^ This guy knows where it's at. Eclipse Ti's, XXX's, Brahmas, and strokers etc all offer better price/performance over the W7.
The W6 is several hundreds less is it not? And yet I would think it's comparable to the Eclipse Aluminums or whatever equivalent I can't think of right now

Are you going for SQ or SPL? The W7 would be much better SQ then a pair of Inhumans, XXX, brahmas, strokers etc.

Well I'm guessing he's looking for a bit of both given he's already got good equipment and he posted his spl score not his sq score.
BTW, if he was going mainly for sq he could use just one of the subs I suggested and a W7 would not sound much better than the other choices. That would be a matter of personal tastes.

Let me know if you want to upgrade that A 1200, I'd be happy to take it off your hands for you.

My opinion may seemed biased but I'll spell it out like this. Most of the before mentioned brands are good speakers however based on input I've received from dealers out in the field (who sell Eclipse and others) they prefered the W7's. Thats not to say the others are garbage but they appreciated the technology behind the woofer and once they understood how it really worked and what went into it, thats when it really clicked. I do a 1.5 hour no BS seminar on the W7 itself explaining how it works and why it will always sound fantastic no matter how loud you play it. I dont think anybody does any sort of intense training on just 1 series of woofers. why 1.5 hours? Simply put, theres alot to talk about and we nver talk about how big and beefy looking it is or silly things like why a Silver painted basketis better than black painted basket.

Anyhow Compare a bunch of speakers and listen to them loud, I mean really really loud. Use music that is very complex and see how well the woofer plays the different layers (as I like to call them). See how well they can play a deep grindy tone and at the same time instantaneously hit you it the back of your head with a kick drum without sounding muddy. While you're doing research, read up on the W7 on JL's website (there's a ton of info) and compare it with info on the other woofers you're looking at. In terms of the W7 pay close attention to every single feature and its purpose. If its on the W7, it wasnt put there to look pretty, it's honestly better. For example, see what our solution is to the noise long tinsel leads make when they slap the back of a cone. We dont suggest silicone or foam tape as the remedy.
I can go on and on but lastly, look through all the reviews done on any of the subwoofers your interested in including the W7. In many cases, pay attention to who the new reference subwoofer is. This woofer is expensive but you cant buy a Ferrari for the price of a Fiero.

As for W6v2 vs W7, the W7 is by far a better woofer but if budget and lack of available power are issues, then the W6v2 is the closest you'll get. When you consider that the new W6v2 is far better than the original W6 which is in its 10th year of production (many people still swear by this woofer by the way) if you choose w6v2 I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

DCMBEASST thanks for that reasurance, ive looked at the web sight and it helps Iwas wondering what the response to there performance would be.
from what i gather either sub will do the job,I just have to decide if I want to compete again or not.I like the new competitions which are classed by # of subs.
