Just finished my trunk - Pics
i heard that facing them back is better bcause as we all know low frequency wavelengths are very long, 20feet and up, therefore the subs sound better facing backward because once the wave bounces off the back of the car and all the way to the front is longer distance than going straight to the front. (more of the wave is in the car)
is what i heard bull**** or fact, although there is some fact, sounds like bull to me

Nope - is bull. The car can only support a wave that is as long as the car, regardless of the position of the woofer.
Woofers work better backwards in most sedan installs due to cancellation and frequency nulls.
A room in a house is a different situation.

dukk... IF you are right, does that mean if i face the sub forward and make the box flush with the back seat so that when the seats are down the speaker box fills in the gap between the front of the car and the trunk, there sould not be any cancellation going on in the trunk therefore should sound good right?

vampiregirl, dukk is right, if you are going to build this in your car, you should build the box as far forward in your trunk towards the seat as you can,BUT, it is critical that you seal the front wave of the woofer from the trunk, the rear deck has to be sealed, there can be NO air leakage into the trunk from the passenger compartment or cancellation will occur, i mean every little hole has to be filled, keep in mind that every frequency has a full wave, 1/2 wave, 1/4 wave etc, eg a 50 hz freq has a full wavelgnth of 22.6ft 1/2 wave 11.3ft, 1/4 wave half of that, so its difficult to predict in vehicle where the wave will be the loudest, so your best bet is to eliminate as many cancellation posibilities as possible, the main way is to seal the trunk from cab, this will usually yield slightly less output and a massive increase in quality, you are best to try to control as many things that can cause cancellation as possible and putting woofers in the trunk firing backwards you are not controlling a cancellation possibility that is easy, but time consuming, to control. the trunk will give you its interpretaion og bass, cancelling some freq. and boosting others

As defro13 said, just make sure you seal off that trunk really well should you choose forward firing woofers. Looks like he did that in his own car.

your type r's are dvc right? do you have them wired 4ohm or 1ohm. because i had some problems with overloading at 1ohm and the 1000bd likes 2ohm alot better so i ended up adding a third sub to draw 2.66 ohm. sweet install though.
