KDC X792 USB Limitations

This head unit will accept a USB mass storage device that you can list MP3's on that will support USB 1.1 and 2.0 which is working great on a small 256mb and 1GB thumb drive. I picked up a Western Digital 250GB, USB 2.0m Mass Storage divice and the head unit will not pick it up as a source. I am thinking that this is due to the face that the 250 giger may need more than the 500ma that the HU puts out.

Has anyone had any luck with getting a larger drive to work off the unit?

Thanks
Phil

Well afte taking to WD is seems that the Pasport 250 GB mass storage is only USB 2.0 which the HU supports. BUT is requires a minimumof 615ma and the HU only puts out 500ma. I wonder why it is USB2.0 compatiable and does nto put out enough ma to run USB 2.0 devices????

Later
Phil

I ran into a similar situation in my van.....I have a Clarion GPS unit that uses a USB port for power and I also have a Blackberry for work.....imagine my surprise to find out the charger for the BB only puts out 500ma and the GPS wants over 1,000ma.....

You'd think when they come up with a "standard" for something, it would be "standard" for everything that uses that type of device.....sheesh
