Im thinking of building up a new system in our Interpid. Consisting of a kenwood kac-9152D amp, a matching four channel to run our ma audio convertibles and a pair of kicker compvr 15's. Anyone know how the kenwood is. It boasts a 900Wrms output at 2ohm and it is CEA2006 rated. And anyone have these subs? or heard them? are they too boomy or will they sound good in all applications and types of music.

Thanks any insight would be good.

the comp vr's are a good sub nothing wrong with them. with 15's what kind of music do you tend to listen to the most. with that amp you will be under powering those subs. you should think about maybe getting something a little bigger. or downsize the subs to 2 12's. One of my friends has one and he loves it, it plays great through the range (he has a 12) of music from rock to rap to everything else. There is a good mix of sq and spl. they work great in a ported box we had them in a sealed box and it didnt sound that good to us but everyone is different in listening to music.

Well the vr 15's will do 500rms and the vr 12's do 400rms so I figured with the 9152 amp that puts out 900rms I would rather underpower the 15's then kill the 12's. I listen to everything from rap/rb to easy listening.

I've never owned the kenwood or kicker products. I was always hard core usamps, orion and PG products. But now with the business, mortgage, wife and kids the sound system budget is reduced so I am looking at cheaply priced alternatives that I will be pleased with and the wife won't notice. I have run 500rms to 2 12" Kicker comps (rated at 150 rms ea.), so I really wouldn't worry about overpowering the vr 12's. Kicker builds their stuff pretty well IMO. As well, 900 rms from the Kenwood is full output - check the amperage draw specs on it; usually it's fairly high and it's easy to forget that you'll rarely put out (or even approach) full output. For example, I believe my Clarion dpx1001.1 draws near 130A alone to produce 1000 wrms...I'm quite sure between this and what my nine.2 (50A full draw) and car itself requires will not be met my my stock 105A alternator. Further, if box size is an issue, 2 12's naturally will require less space than 2 15's. And it should be cheaper. Perhaps 1 15" will suit your needs - you could always buy another mate should you desire so. So many options...good luck with the setup.

The CompVr is a great sub. Just look at it's construction. It has awesome excursion and the ability to thump really low but still stay crisp with very little muddiness to the sound. Give it as much power as you want. IMO Kicker works best overpowered.

Double stitched surround, sleeved tinsel leads, powdercoated basket, Solokon cone, spring loaded wire terminals, perimeter venting, rubber butyl surround, a bling look and lots of performance.

I think it's one the most solid performing subwoofers on the market. The Solobaric line overshadows the Comps and CompVR. It is also available in 18" sizes as well.

Well heres the deal. I can build a system using the Kenwood D class 9152 amp and s pair of vr's or go with something like a boss RIP3d amp that boasts 1200wrms at 4 ohms and 1700rms at 2 ohms.... and a couple of VR's or something like that. There both the same price. And cost is an issue right now.

Im just wondering how good that 9152 is I only need about 900-1000wrms

so Im unsure.

The compvrs dont need the full rms wattage to sound good.
I would go with the kenwood any day of the week!
I was running a 300rms watt 2 channel kenwood on a sigle 12 compvr and it sounde great.
In a sealed box,by the way and that sucker slammed pretty damm good!

So a nice setup with two 12" compvr's and the kenwood 9152 should be quite good correct.

I have an intrepid and I have maaudio 5.25 in the doors and 6x9 in the rear and both are convertible and then I will hook them up to a kenwood of the same series and heatsink size and then the 12's vr hooked to the 9152d.

Do you guys prefer the subs firing right into the cab or facing backwards.
