kicker ks 65.2 comps, no bass @ all?!?

hi all!!! post #1 I've been outta the loop 4 a few years, and now that i have less "life" responsibilities..... its time to have some fun again

i am by no means a stranger to car installs, but this latest project has me at a loss. i installed a component set of kickers (6.5" & 1" tweets) in the doors/a pillers, all wiring correct ( checked multiple times) amps set 'flat', or full pass thru, no change in audio when balance switched from one side to the other. i even have those "soft,plastic/foamie style" door cups behind them sealing/protecting them!! but i have minimal bass comming from the 6.5" midbass drivers! loud, yes. but not much for any REAL tonal range.

any ideas/thoughts?

thanks all. shoot any ?'s you need for a better answer.

What are you powering them with, amp or headunit?

i am powering them with an amp. its a ultimate T3 4075. all gain matched. and the head unit is a alpine cda 9883. bass and treb. at '0' eq @ flat, no boost at all. same on the amp. if i start to inflate the bass settings, the 6.5" drivers get sloppy way to early (compared to trebble/tweeter volume).

i donno, i had the same type in a '97 jeep cherokee a few years ago and i remembered that they too sounded quite hollow..... i have a small stockpile of kicker drivers stashed away for a few years now, thats the only reason for still using the same brand. strange, as i have had alot better luck with cheaper coaxials than these. ($340.00 @ visions reg. price about 5-6 years back)

i wonder, maby i have a problem with the size of the wires??? i have 14 ga. going from the amp to the crossover network, then from there i used the supplied wiring that came with the kit... maby 18-20 ga. i figured it must have been acceptable if it was packaged with it. good enough for 60-75 watts rms between the tweet/midbass, no?

The wire size won't affect anything. You appear to have done a good job at troubleshooting - usually this is a polarity issue but balancing all to one size or the other generally exposes that. I do generally like to cut a window in the bottom of foam baffles so they still protect from water but let the woofer have more air to work with but that's not going to completely restrict the lows.

Some speakers just don't seem to like to make bass/midbass. I'm not familiar with these so I can't really comment to them.
