Been awhile ago but was in mid to late 80s when i got an am/fm/tape deck for my 79 Dodge Omni. It was one of the ones that had the ***** that fit on the poles (remember those) Also had one of those amps that were the size of a pack of smokes with 1 big button to turn it off or on. From there it has grown over the years except until about 6-7 years ago when my system was stolen and i swore off systems forever. Well now I got the bug again recently to give it 1 more shot.

My neighbour owned an electronics store and I figured a school co-op placement there in '92 would be fun and easy.
Got all my audio/video gear at cost and learned more about home and car audio/video.
I already had a Pioneer P7200HU, Toshiba 873 amp, Kaption 6.5 Pro set comps, and two Kenwood 10" subs.
When I started getting stuff at cost I replaced most of the equipment (mostly because some of the stuff in my truck was from a rival shop).
Moved into Kaption Pro subs and PG M-series amps and just kept upgrading.
Always had a good stereo even though I didn't keep up with the new products while I was in college.
I have never been serious into competing but put my car on the mic once and a while.

Thumbs up

1984...bought my first car - a red Pontiac Acadian Scooter - which didn't even come with a radio or cigarette lighter. It had a piece of plywood where the spare tire cover went

Anyhow, had to put a stereo in it and my dad who was really happy that I bought a car without him having to put money into it and that I was no longer going to be pestering him for his ride gave me some money to buy the following:

-a Concord 532 deck
-Blaupunk (sp?) tweats
-MEI 5.25"
-Clarion 6x9's
-Concord Amp (2x25 watts? I think...)

...I don't think I could happier...and so the madness began...

i can't remember what exactly got me interested in car audio, but i've always loved music, have it on all the time, so it made sense to have a good stereo in the vehicle. I installed a system in my dad's truck before i even had my license. Had a nice deal with my parents where they paid half the cost of my gear cos i got good marks in school. It was nothing special, but i loved that system. Went through 2 more systems in that truck, partly mine, partly my brothers when he started driving, and i started saving for Uni instead of buying stereos.
Now dad has a new truck, that old truck belongs to me, I'm looking into becoming an installer, and I'm looking into finally getting a new stereo again

1982 I think. I wanted the t-shirt. about $100 to get 112 db. tape deck 6x9's 5 1/4 and like Tim said an under dash EQ/ amp in an 65 merc. Nothing realy since till I got the bug in 2001. Still I try to keep it simple, ya right!

Well my interest rubbed off from my brother Dukks interest. When he got his first car, I was 11 and after he and our dad put his first stereo in (I'll let him elaborate on the car and system when he sees this thread ) I HATED when he cranked up the Eddie Money and Bon Jovi (hey, this was 1986) and told my mom about it. I was getting more interested when I was around 14, but this was at a time I thought it silly that the more expensive Alpine decks that the local shop carried had no amp. I bought my first piece of car audio at 15 before I even could drive. It was a Coustic HT-610 10" sub. Dukk built a bandpass box for it and I used it in my closet powered off my ghetto blaster . I later sold it to my buddy.

First system was in my 81 2wd GMC Jimmy that I got after I turned 17. Alpine 7801 CD player, Pioneer tweets high up on the a-pillar, Rockford 6.5" mids in the doors (Rockford was a new, very cool brand to have in my area), 2 Rockford 12" subs, 1 Rockford 8" sub in the stock console in a slick bandpass setup, Alpine 3522 and 3542 amps and an Alpine 3652 2-way electronic crossover. It was the nicest system in high school. I competed with that same system in my first IASCA competitions starting 1992. Dukk did a nice job on the install as most guys my age at that time were running cheapo Pioneer 6x9s in $20 boxes off a booster eq. My install had plexiglas on the sub box, which was carpted and color-coordinated, custom door panels, sub in console and multiple amps. It was pretty cutting edge for Lloydminster, SK

I got into car audio at Christmas quite a few years ago...I think I was 12 or 13 ...my Cousin had an Eagle Talon Turbo(all wheel drive) He had some kind of Alpine deck, may have even been the 7909....I forget now....anyway, he had that connected to a PG eq and crossover that ran to PG amps....one ran the really good set of PG comps...I forget what they were called..they would have been top of the line probably 900+ bucks.....and he had 3 10" Kaption subs in a really big ported box. I was really into the imports at the time and he had the Talon lowered 2" with some 18's and a really big garbage can tail pipe and underlights. I asked him if he had one of those really loud stereos that I had heard but never really seen....so he took me out to the car and let me listen to it...I think back then he said it was hitting like mid 140's , which was pretty good for that time. I was sitting there and asked him to put on some Easy E and crank it...so he did, and that was enough for me...my adam's apple was vibrating and the bass was really tight in the chest and he turned it down, and I'm like" I wanna do that when I get a car". So I did and it's been interesting let me tell ya.

Wanted to boom down the street, and make my girl friend's b**bies shaker, my first memories were of the boxing day A&B Sound flyer...blaupunkt eq and cassette.

Got hit with the bug in 92 when a buddy sold me a set of full range Fosgate boxes, matched them up with a high quality Canadian Tire Sparkomatic 80 watt powerhouse.

One of the local shops had a competition in 94, so I borowwed a bunch of gear and went on to take first place, after that I decided to go full out Iasca. Now after the fact that I came extremely close to personal bankruptcy, I am slowly reintroducing myself with car audio, just hope I don't get carried away like before.
