All my friends were a few years older than me, so I was like 14 at the time, and everyone was getting stereos for there car. Once I started playing around installing them and getting my brains rattled a bit; I was hooked, and have been
into mobile electronics ever since. Now, 12 years latter, I look back and chuckle at some of the systems I had, and installed for friends.
We had four 10" mixed subs in our first "Silver Bullet"-1984 Buick LeSabre. They were two technics home strereo subs(circa-1978), and two Power Accoustic subs.--Series1 Fosgate amps, and I thought I was THE MAN. I even thought I was cool When the Korbon Rep gave me a Rockford Fosgate sticker to put on that car. That was when the Fosgate Demo vehicle was the EHR tow vehicle(Ford Dually Crew Cab). I started competing when the Pheonix Gold Slam Jams started, and when dB Drag was new in Canada with a ******* Wagon-Wood Trim and all.

I hijacked my dad's home stereo and through a pair of $8000 sub cabinets in a dodge Caravan, and cranked the 2LIVE CREW.

Some people were not happy, but I was.

A year later at Winter CES, I had a run around the Zoo parking lot. Drooooooollll!!!!

It took me 2 more years, but I eventually put something in the back of the family hatch back.

^ Me So Horny, one of my favorite tunes I remember in high school putting some home stereo equip. of one of my buddies into another buddies Suburban and trying to run it all off a 200w inverter. Any time we tried to turn it up some with some bass, it would cut out. Good times, good times.

First Rockford demo vehicle I had the pleasure of experiencing was one of the Blastro Vans. They had this fleet of Chevy Astros in the early 90s that were outfitted with 2 white Power 1000s (not the new style but the ultra-cool, $4500 retail old style), a TV molded into the dash and one for the rear seats and 4 Pro Series 18s behind the rear two Recaro seats. At Powerama in the Northlands Agriplex that JB's Automotive put on a sound off every year in conjunction with the car show, the owner of Korbon (forget his name, really nice older guy) had the Blastro and gave me a demo of Madonna's Vogue while I sat less than 2 ft. from those 4 18s. I felt sick when I got out and it was awesome

what better combo than cars + music. Why wouldn't everyone get into car audio?!?
1st system, it's 1992, in a 1987 cavalier 4dr. (moms car)
-MEI deck (that is Missing Electronics Inside)
+10" pyle freeair, in a bandpass box. (yes, i know better now!)
+160 watt craig amp.
+OEM speakers
=the best sound i'd ever heard.
never looked back, now look at what it's got me. A life long obsession!

My Dad is an High end Home Audio freak. I watched (and built up my home stereo) as my Dad over 15 years bought stuff then upgraded, and upgraded ect untill he built his personal audi perfection (Machitosh gear)

He listens to Big Brass Band, and Marching band music. And as much as I HATE that stuff it sounded AWESOME on his home system. I then started to read the new car audio magazine called 'Auto Sound and Security" at a mag shop becuase it had a cool pick up truck on the cover (I was into mini trucks)and I was 15. The mag had coverage of a ton of SQ comps.....and I was hooked.

Long story short over a few years I got my license (I was 21 beleive it or not) and my first car was my 1990 Honda Civic. The first nigth I had it at home, I took one of (dads old stuff) JBL 3 way cabs and plunked it in the back and was happy for about one nigth.

My dad helped my built a sub box for 4 clarion 8's that I got on sale the week before, along with a HiPhonics amp.

We got done and my Dad wouldn't even listen to the car. His quote (and it still stands today)

"what the H@ll do you need a stereo like that in a car for".....lol

I saved up my money for 6-8 months working two jobs (totaled 10 days a week, 5 days, 5 nigths a week...man I was tired)to get a system liek the magazine cars had.

I went to a IASCAN show in Toronto where Earl Zausmer had his BMW. I was blown away.........I really wish my dad could have heard that car. It was his type of system.

That was it. I then started looking for an installer that could built to IASCA rules. I hit every shop from London, to Kingston (no joke) to look for the rigth shop. I acted like I knew nothing to get an idea of what they were all about. Some of the stuff I was told was really scary.

I found Arlindo Silvera..and this man built my Honda to the level it was. And he listened to exactly what I wanted, and gave input to better idea's. I can say that If he didn't support my idea's I probably would never have built the Honda.

I can say that Competition has done alot for me, I have traveled 1000's of miles, meet and have friends all over NA.

Almost the same reply as Mr Baileys. Around the middle 80`s I bought a Nissan Truck. Had an old Kraco setup. Got an MEI deck for grad and just kept upgrading untill Someone arsoned the truck.

Next one had to be a little better system So an old Pioneer deck and some Bazooka tubes went in, then a Kenwood amp and Pioneer 2 ways.

Found a pair of JL 10w1`s and bought a Grenade G64 to run them. That all got stolen and replaced with PG gear.

Tried a few local comps and just kept building, untill 8 subs and 5 amps got to much.

Decided to get into it a little more after a vacation from it and will be doing Mmats for next year if I have any $$ left from the race car.

So right in the almost 20 year mark of stereo playing.

Jamie, in your search for an installer did you ever talk to Holly Mungal at Canadian Auto Radio? He was huge in IASCA back in the day...hmmm...maybe a little too far back in the day when I think of it
