I wish we also had the www.cca.com web address, I would add it to my demo car decals (when I get them done) to help promote the site.

I think you are missing my point Rob. Maybe things are different out your way but, here at least, I would bet that no more than 0.5% of the customers I have ever asked have ever heard of CCA. Hell, I would bet that only 1% of all the industry people I know have ever even stopped by.
What I am driving at is, I would be very surprised if you could track even a minor loss or gain in traffic or sales based on what is going on here.
That kid over there looking at that deck in your store very likely has never heard of CCA, does not know MaNiC links to skid US internet buy sites or that MTX is "getting away with something" in their post. It just has little relevance day to day. I think we sometimes get caught up in the site and think that more people know about it and follow it than really do.
People are going to shop online. It is no different than the kid from your town that will drive to Victoria or come to Van for gear - some people just like to work that way.
Finally, you say NO e-tailers. You seem like a decent guy Rob, but then so does JordyO and he's an e-tailer. Both of you are just good ol' Canadian boys trying to make a buck and get ahead in this world, why should we favour one over the other?

This industry and retailers in general need to start protecting themselves. Now if the e-tailer is an authorized Canadian dealer, that is a different ball game. If it is a direct link to Trailer Park Bob's Audio Discount Warehouse in the US (or whatever US e-tailer it may be), this is doing nothing to protect the Canadian dealer or e-tailer marketplace as it is right now.
If we have authorized Canadian e-tailers, so be it, I and am sure others can deal with this as we have been. WE are at the beginning stages of how business is going to be done in the future and we need to step up and set the proper course right now, not try and respond to it once the greater damage is done. Business is changing and we need to change with it. The indipendent dealer is the one who can change the quickest.
Paul, I understand where you are coming from and differing areas will have differing results at the same time. To say that the average Jor customer is not aware of a forum is incorrect, a quick look at all of the forums in general and how quicly they are growing will confirm this. They are getting bigger all the time regarless if it is myself, or an idiotstick that I want to throatpunch that is making people aware.
Do not lose sight of this fact. AS this site and other continue to grow and as threads are read over and over and over again, the power of written word is immense. People believe what they read as it is how you are taught. If people read on a continuous basis a link from whomever to a US e-tailer, it will be follwed up with a visit for the most part. The person that the e-tailer is targeting is not you or I, it is the 16-25 yr.old male that already knows all about a computer and links in general. If we allow this to continue here on this site, it takes business away from all of us in general, be it sales, installation or the most important thing of allm getting the referral from the customer that should have been in your store.
Think long term here guys as this is what we need to be protecting. I'm sure that Jordy-o is a great dude at the same time. I have yet to have a pissing contest with him anyways . Just don't **** in my cornflakes and we will all get along just fine. It is how he would conduct his business that would make or break what happens in general and any perceived views of him. I would beleive that he would need to abide by the exact same set of rules as I would regarding linking, advertising etc. If the e-tailer has to take a pic of his house and show people that this is where he works out of, installs from etc., I would be able to do the same with a storefront, install bay etc. Would he be able to post a phone number or website, only if I am able to post a phone number or website.
I am against the un-authorized etailer and a US based e-tailer, not a authorized Canadian e-tailer. We do not need to have people here in Canada recommending to others to take their business across the line. For some who have no vested interest in the business they are employed at, it is a general "who cares". For every person that has invested heavily into something that they are proud to call their own, this is a far different story.
The e-tailer is here to stay, no doubt and business will continue to be done this way, do we need to support it though, only if we can support ourselves here the exact same way. As long as we all play by the same rules is what is going to be best for all.

On a serious note, I believe that online sales of car audio in any form or fashion has hurt and will continue to hurt the industry.
When the manufacturer (RF, MTX and others) offer a "B" stock sales site on their home page not to mention a ebay store........................that is just wrong....................I personally am even thinking of no longer dealing with companies that do such a thing........................and these are the ones that promote shutting down illegal internet sales................

My main problem with E-tailing is that Mr. E-tailer isn't stuck at a shop all day answering stupid questions, fixing problems and educating consumers. Nope Mr. E-tailer gets to sit at home and count the money he does not have to spend on wages, lights, insurance, phone bills, advertising, shop materials, employee "accidents", WCB, taxes, and on and on... So, if you think about it E-tailing hurts our economy because it steals the marketshare of businesses that pay wages to workers (you know, you and me) and does not contribute its fair share of taxes, thus making you and I have to fork over evermore to make up for their missing share -- Just my 2 cents.

I'd also throw this thought out there..... if you want this forum to put forth an effort on your behalf........ something that your business may benefit from, you should pony up some bucks to support and advertise on this forum as it's my understanding that it costs money to run. I'm not throwing this out only at you Rob, but just as a general statement to anyone making demands on the site and it's format. Does that sound reasonable?????

Tom, I agree with you and as a matter of fact, I had already written this waaaaay up top "We dealers should pay some kind of yearly fee for this, nothing huge but something is better than nothing."
