Locked Eclipse CD5000 HU :dunno:

Hey guys, great site!

Little background, I recently took over my dad's old Datsun 240z project car. It won't ever be right without a decent SQ build, so here I am. About to try my hand at fibreglassing kick panels and the "spare tire well" subwoofer enclosure.

While I was at home this christmas, my dad (a true audiophile) dug through the basement... and came back (in part) with an Eclipse CD5000 Head Unit.
Now, if we remember correctly, this thing is supposed to use an "unlock CD" to unlock the HU after it is installed or the battery is removed.
I work on the car a lot (and if I don't, something electrical is always a little funky with these 35 yr old cars), which means it's deafneatly going to lock me out more than a few times.

No idea where (or what) the master CD is, and I'm pretty sure the receipt is long gone (He likes to keep what he pays for certain things... to himself.).

I'm finally ready to do this install, when I remembered that this HU locks. I emailed Eclipse, they said I need proof of ownership (box/manual not enough). I emailed dad, he said there is a hack out there and to search the net.
I guess I could pay someone to do this, but I'm on a real shoestring budget.
It was presumably not locked when it was replaced.

One more question? He also found a dusty Ph.Gold 2/3 octave EQ. Are these usually good "forever"? Anything I should do to this EQ215i before installing?

There is no online hack for the unit. You can send it to me and I can reset it here. There is a charge for this from Eclipse.

I don't think it's locked right now, and he said it always worked without an unlock disc for him.

Maybe this has already been done?
I have not yet installed the unit.

You have to activate the lock using a disc of your choice.

If it has not been set up to lock, then there is no need to un-lock it.

Later,
Brad

x2 to what pistonhead said

i have a Eclipse cd 5444 and you take any disc you want and use that as your master lock cd so to unlock it you would have to use that same cd. If it has never been done then you should be ok. So if your dad never locked it your ok if he did then he should know what disc he used. I was scard of losing the disc so i never did it myself.
