I have two rules when buying audio equipment!!! Never buy at a big chain retailer....best buy, crappy tire, walmart ETC, and never buy sony lol But serious I'd go used, and make sure that the guy that sells it too you proves to you that it works proper, and if you're still not sure take it into the local audio dealership (providing theyr'e reputable) adn see what the installer thinks.

breakin in a new vehicle is a myth now adays becuase cars are built with such tight tolerances

breaking in a sub althought is important.

play it at moderate to low volumes for a good week before giving it a good beating.

You still have breakin time on a new vehicle and you should breakin the suspension of a new sub.

Not necessarily to stay away from the big box butchers, but buying a ab"used" sub usually means that you will be buying a new one again in short order. So do you buy it right the first time or do you buy it twice? The hardworking indipendent dealers like myself always need and appreciate new business. We are usually also armed with more tools in our toolbox. By this I mean that we usually have more of a selection available to choose from instead of brand A, Brand B (solrry we're sold out) , Brand C, or whatever the commission sales person makes the most money on. An indipendents goal (at least my goal), is to get you the right products for your investment that show you value. Value is price, performance, quality, warranty. This is why an indipendent is free to choose their lines, something that the big box generally cannot do. Of all the big box guys on this forum, that I am aware of, not one is a salesperson. They are all installers. Those types of people have valuable information for the person that needs help. They are also the exact same type of person like myself. They are the person that should they choose to, can easily go into business for themself and be a successful indipendent.

that's my suggestion. They charge usually a lot more for there stuff because of the higher overhead costs, and or price gauging for people who don't know any better!! as for buying used, be wiery, you are buying used equipment, 9 times out of 10 it'll be good. The best deals are on the local car forums and or on here!

Awesome, I'm slowly learning a bit more about this stuff, now I just have to find out what kind of a set up I want to go with..

I listen to some classic rock, some new age rock, alot of rap, and r&b and some hip hop.

With that range that I listen to, it means I would want to show off the bass with the rap and hiphop area, but when it comes to the rock, i dont need it to be blasting or anything, now what would i do in that area?
