Mach5 12 vs. Alpine Type R 12

Ok, I'm either going to go for a mach5 audio 12" or an alpine type r 12". Amp will be a alpine m450 (400 watts). I can get the mach5 for about 100, type r for about 175. Would the type R be worth the extra? Either sub would be put in a proper ported enclosure, going in a 96 golf. Looking for sq as a priority with the ability to get loud (compared to what I've had in the past).

The Mach5's are hard to beat in terms of value. But IMO the Type is a superior driver...much more advanced.

Never used the Mach, but at 100.00 and judging from the comments and the photos, it looks like a good deal. That said, I do have 2 type r 12's, new model, and they sound great when properly set up...very tight, clean bass and they get loud even in a small sealed box.

The mach5's look nice, and I've heard good things, but for 75 bones more I'm gonna go for the type r. I might try a mach5 next spring, but I want to go with something a little more proven (and support my buddy locally). Thanks for the advice guys.

just as a note...I noticed future shop has Infinity perfect 12" subs and a sealed box for 200.00. That's an excellent sub as well and the price is great. Just thought I'd mention it.

Meh, pre fab boxes scare the hell out of me, plus I have gone ported on every sub box the last 3 years. That, and the type r excels in ported boxes from what I hear. Probably do 1.8@35 hertz.

Don't laugh, but when I went to pick one up from my buddy they had like 7 dual 2 ohm and 0 dual 4 ohm. I just decided to go with the type S 12 instead of the type R 10. Worst case scenario I **** the hell out of the type S all winter and buy a new sub in the spring, or hopefully get a new vehicle and go to town once school is done.

It's still in the box, you think I should take it back and wait for a type R?
