MDF pricing
Or just pay the extra $10 and buy the 1" and not have to screw it together and worry about it loosening up and rattling. [/QB]
Where do you get 1" for $10 more than 3/4"? For that price difference, yes use 1". But for most, the cost of 1" is worth 2 sheets of 3/4", which when glued and screwed is better than 1". That is why I would buy 3/4".

3/4 mdf is actually stronger than 3/4". the laminated top and bottom of mdf is what gives it its strgnth. the dust that makes up mdf is weak. if you want 1", laminate 2 pieces of 1/2" together, otherwise you are wasting your $$$. brace 3/4" like you would 1" and you will have a less resonant enclosure

Home Depot in my area has 1" mdf for $40ish and Kinslayr you said get 2 chunks of 3/4 and screw them together 3/4" is about $25 a sheet at least so buying 2 sheets would be about $50 which would be less then the price of one sheet of 1" unless you can double up your sub box only using one sheet in which case it would be cheap and if thats what you meant its my bad.

Wow has this gone off track. Ok. This is what I am saying. 1 sheet of 3/4" is say $25, say 1 sheet of 1" is $40. So if you need the strength of 1", for the extra few dollars, buy the 3/4", double it up, and you won't need to brace.
If you can get away with just 3/4" and bracing, which is stronger than 1" with no bracing, then do it. But if you have to have the strength of 1" with bracing just buy 2 sheets of 3/4" and double them up and have no bracing.
