As A Member of CCA...
#1
In reference to the whole "New Shop in Oshawa" issue...
As a member of CCA, I want to know that a new shop has opened. I want to know what product they sell and what their competitive strengths are. I am not questioning ad policy, just stating that this kind of infomration is useful to me...A LOT more useful than many posts from indviduals on this board (not a judgement, just an observation...and before anyone goes off, their is ALSO a lot of VALUABLE info on this board and that's why I visit).
I assume the mandate of this board is the exchange of useful information related to car audio. Ultimately it is the members who determine what is useful information by their decision to participate or not participate on this board.
I, for one, would like this type of information to be made known to me.

Yes, it is good to know about a new shop.
Normally if a shop opens they will need to do some of the following:
(1) Place an ad. in the newspaper.
(2) Place signs (on the road etc).
(3) Do a radio/TV commercial.
All of which cost money but promote the business, so it is money well spent.
Buying advertising space here, will cost money, but is money well spent. It is good business practice. If a company wants to suceed, they will do everything through the proper channels. If they don't do things through the proper channels and cut corners they essential say "We don't do things right here, we do things cheap" What business wants to send that message. It is in the best intrests of the company to buy space. Then, once space has been purchased, some special priviledges may apply:
GCA gets leeway because they have gone through the right channels. In addition to that, they have an easy to access icon that I can see right now to the right of the screen. That is good business!
Since none of us have paid to register here, and hosting a server costs money, it is incredibly rude of a shop to assume that they can get free advertising space (and even more rude to complain when there ads have been shut down).
Yes, its good to know that a new shop has come; but isn't even better to know that a new shop has come and has done things properly?
All of this discussion has completely turned me off of GTA, and you won't see me shop there.

Fishbone - I suppose this was my doing by closing their thread. It IS still available right on the first page of this very Forum though and in fact by it having a 'lock' on it more people probably read it then would have anyway.
My issue is not that they listed brands or announced their existence. hell we have enough people on here with their shop names in their signatures that I could hardly fault that. Go look and you see where they advertised prices? whoops - that did it. I have a job and closing advertising is part of it.
I cut them slack because they seem new to here and only closed it, not deleted it and I even gave them the heads up about how to advertise effectively here. What a dink eh?
I don't want them to leave or to not participate. They just cannot advertise pricing in a post. Should be no big deal right - everyone else has the same rule
