so I've Parellelly hooked up 2 12'' Infinity 1230w's up to an Alpine MRD-M300 , absolutly amazing. I thought forsure that that amp would seriously underpower both of them. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I was worried about over working my amp, and causing it's emergency shut off to go off, but nope nothing. it's just producing amazing base!

From what I'm seeing/calculating, It's drawing approxamatly 2.5 amps at it's peak, which to me seems a bit high, but from what I've read this amp can take the heat!

I know for a fact that all the <M> series amps from Alpine can run 2ohm all day and all night on full, I currently run an M500(the bigger brother), on an L7, and before that it was on a pair of Type R's. I ran this amp hard, trying to trip it but nothing, not even so much as an burp,overheat, fan turn on hard, nothing but pure clean fun bass!!! But thats just from my angle..Im not a pro or nothing

 

yeah I used to run with 2 of these amps hooked up to 2 type R's for SQL and 2 mrdm1000 for SPL. I have been able to cause the shut down to go off on the 300 a couple times. But I really surprised that I havn't caused it to off running these subs. I also don't have the gains turned up incredibly high, aprrox at half,

Nice Nice...I cannot get my m500 to do it, but I just recently sold my Mrd-1005, and I got it to shut off all the time with my R's, but they arent blown...weird...buthey if it sounds good....doo it

 

the R's can handle the 1000's really nicely if tuned properly. The bonus to the MRDM amps is that you generally won't blow you're subs. The amp shuts off if it comes close to killing the subs, at least that's always been my experience. I actually just blew my first Alpine sub ever a coulple weeks ago. It was a type s that was quite a few years old. and actually I took it apart, and the coil had corrosion on it, and there was rust in side the magnet, leading me to beleive somehow moisture got into it!

You're worried about overworking your amp? If you're not clipping the damn thing you won't be overworking it. My thoughts on your setup? You're giving your subs half their rated power. That's rarely a good thing but if your happy with how it sounds then enjoy it.

And a Alpine amp will fry a sub just as easy as another amplifier will. There's no magic pixie dust inside it that senses when you're doing something stupid to your stereo.

If you're causing your amplifiers to shut down you should re-evaluate the products you've chosen and your install methods. My amps never shut down and in 14 years I've never fried a sub.

Why pay for a driver that you are not going to use to its full potential?

Rather than give a driver half its rated power handling either purchase the amount of power the driver was designed to excel with or purchase a more efficient driver.

 

I know I'm giving them half the power of what they're rated fore. that's why I"m amazingly impressed by it. The amps preformance on these subs is absolutly amazing. personally if I had the money. I'd be using one amp per sub, which would be perfect.
as for giving the driver half of it's rated power. I don't see the big issue as long as the sounds is clean and crisp and as long as you're happy with the out come! a lot of people don't need to use the drivers full potential, we would really rather keep our hearing. and from my experience if you're looking at the best SQ and not SPL then there absolutly no problem underpowering the subs as long as the crispness and sound quality is still there
