well my biz partner also went to this school, i know of three others from our class who have gone on to open their own shops and are still in business. i also know of two others from the following class who are on the top 100 installers and also i know that one guy i went to school with has opened his second shop in europe. i have talked to and seen the work of many others from this school, and maybe it's just the fact they come to the states to work instead of staying up there with the likes of shop owners like yourself.....something to consider when you hire your "better" installers and have to spend a lot of time "training them" with what ever "knowledge" you may have to offer. you want to blame the school for something they can not control! If someone goes to this school and is only kinda interested in car audio for a career, they will more then likely be crappy installers, where as if they do well in the class they more then likely get hired really quick at a great shop, that is in your area and doing better work then you and your "in house" trained installers. Also the "good installers" from this school know what they should be making so if pay crappy or have a a poor view on things they will not stick around or even bother to "work" for you and your shop. Maybe you should look at some things at your own shop before you try and blame a school for the "crappy" installers they produce. just because you can't find good help doesn't mean Mobile Dynamics produces crappy installers, it just means none of them want to work for you.

 

Same thing happened to me at Hybrid in Burnaby around 2000, left me out a couple thousand dollars..... ****ers.

 

I wouldn't blame Mobile Dynamics for producing unskilled installers
ANY trade has the exact same problem..for example Welding
when I took the Level C , B and fabrication courses there were people
who graduated with tickets that could not pass an all position CWB test or
even read a blueprint properly..in fact out of the 60+ students I attended
with only a very small handfull of them were what I classified as skilled

doesn't matter what trade..some people got it and some people don't

they are a bunch of knobbs for shutting down 3 weeks into the course though
it should be illegal to take such action..they had no buisiness taking money from
students if there was the smallest doubt of being able to complete the course

We have given many md kids a chance and the one that make it did not need it . Thats why i think aprentice ship programs work better
They do on the job training if they can do that ,the schools would then offer the in class and testing .
so we still need schools just not md .

 

Well at least they closed doors b4 i decided to take CEDIA certification thru them. It's not a requirement in HT installation but nice to show to customers that you got proper training. As for their car audio install course, if i had a shop i'd rather hire someone from MD with less than 5 car installs under their belt with MECP certification than someone who had done 25 and yet has no clue what a DMM is or thinks that Ohms law is something you take in law school, lol!

I attended MD in 1995 ... It was amazing . Gord Stansell was a really cool teacher.

For me, md was worth every penny.

 

glad their gone, always thought it was a huge ripoff.......they were incredibly qualified at making top notch floor sweepers and thats about all everyone of their "graduates" was ever good for

 

Maybe they should have reconsidered the $4000 page s in crappy PAS (yea yea, i know they are slashing their prices.. what is it now, 1k now for a page)

We spoke to M.D., wow, over a year ago I believe. If I remember correctly they said something along the lines of 'we are super packed and busy'.

Reminds me of Phantom Car Audio (Dan) telling me they are swamped with clients, then chains on their doors the following week.

When I first got into car audio I used to dream about attending MD so I could build cutting edge installs.

Knowing they were going to fold and taking money from students makes them pieces of crap though, lets not sugar coat this
