I've heard you shouldn't mount an amp to your subbox because the vibrations will decrease the life of the amps componenets. Is this true? Has anyone done this?

Yea, I wanna know this too. Heh, if you look at
the pics on my site you can see I mounted it on the side (like RIGHT next to the sub).

Maybe I'll search the board...

So many ppl do it I can't see it bein that bad. Another common place thats good to mount an amp is on the back of a seat.

shouldnt really be a problem if you have a big heavy box (worked for me)...at "sound advice" out here they sell packages with it hooked up like that, but they might just want the money to repair it when/if it breaks

I had amps mounted to the back of my old box, I used rubber grommets between the amp and the box to help cushion the amps a bit, never seemed to hurt anything. HTH

It wouldnt matter, aslong as the screws dont go right through the box. I see car audio shops do this all the time.

So long as the amp is securely mounted, and that the sub box wont slide around ripping the wires out or anything. The amp will vibrate just as much on the sub box as it will on the false floor (assuming a well built sub box)
