Mpyre

Anybody have any feedback on their products? The look pretty good from here but I'd love to hear some hands on (ears on...? lol) experience before I take a long drive out to Abbotsford

Yet another "me too" company started by someone who is building things out of a parts catolog. Where will they be next year or the year after that though? If it does the job for you at the price you can afford and you are willing to gamble that the company will still be around in the future, then buy away.

You paid all that money for a sports car, only to have its handling, speed and vehicle dynamics ruined because of bloated stereo equipment; we have crafted our speakers with that in mind.
ROTFL

Yeah, a few pounds of sprung weight is gonna destroy your handling...

Valid point about their longevity. It does look like decent quality equipment but if they aren't around to back it up...... (nevermind the comical promotional lines...lol)

So what would you guys consider to be in your current say top 5 brands? When I used to know more about car audio MTX, Infiniti, Dynaudio, JBL etc were commonly some of the better brands. Who's head of the roost now?

There's never going to be a best brand. For the same reason as there's never going to be a best sub, mid, tweet, amp, HU, etc.
It's always going to be what is the best for my application and my ears. In this way your top 5 companies for a product may be completely different than another person's top 5 and each person will be absolutely correct.

Most companies have their share of products that developed a bad name for some reason or another but for the most part there's umpteen different companies that make good reliable products that might have just what you're looking for.
One thing you can be sure of is that anyone who tells you a generic top 5 list is going to give you a biased list.

I know how you feel though. I got out of the game for a couple of years when I was in college and when I came back there was massive changes in the car audio scene.

^^^^ I agree with his statements. While I may carry a crapload of car audio lines, it is primarily to have a broader base to chosoe from once the customers application has been found. Being a dealer I have my favorites based on years of experience in real world applications. post up what your goals for the system are, then some options can be given.

Believe me I know about audio in general and it's subjectiveness. I've been more in to home audio/HT as well as buying a house etc for the past 1/2 decade or so. So as you mentioned I'm "out of the loop" on up and comer's or companies that rested on their laurels and didn't keep up. Biased opinions (are there any other kind ) are what I'm looking for. I need a starting point, some reccomendations so I can go and track those brands down and listen with my own ears and then decide for myself. That's why I asked for people's "top 5" as I know EVERYONE will have their own favourite brand and there really is no "best" brand. I just want to know a few brands that are currently considered to make good quality "noise" for the money. The more varied opinions/options the better

Well I started a thread on what I currently have and what I'm looking at but got no replies.
