Mtx Subs with..? lower watt amp + higher watt sub?

Hey everyone im new to the CCA site and also to car audio..
I have recently purchased a MTX jackhammer set with 2 12's in a mtx audio ported box. I believe peak is 1600 Watts and rms is 600 Watts. I have a 300 watt mtx thunder amp i had from before, but i figured you wouldnt be able to use it to its full potential.. whats a recommended amp for this system.. and also say if your using a lower powered amp like the 300w amp hooked to a 600w rms system, would the amp or sub get damaged in any way? If someone could help this noobie out, much appreciated =)!

less power wont hurt anything. Just remeber u have a smaller amp , dont crank the gains because it makes more noise, thats how u will hurt things.

In the end dont bag the amp and u will be fine.

I'm running 2 12" audiobahns 4ohm,svc rated at 550w/rms each and powering them with 2 Infinity reference 311a, very under powered, but still pounds. My gains are turned to just past a quarter never overheats, never clips

I was once told that under powering my components would cause them to heat up and blow, I knew right away he was full of it because it didn't make sense.

Just keep your gains low and use your ears, I had a 250watt sub running with a 150watt rms amp with a ported box and it pounded...Never had a problem.
