OK, I really am not sure how to set the LP, and HP on that amp. My alpine crossover has the frequency marked on the face, next to the dials. I use a 12" Road Thunder 5000, and it's set on LP to play 300hz and down. My amp is an ancient Eclipse, rated at 25x2. But the amp is set up mono, and well, there's no way that it is only putting out around 90 watts. Maybe someone else here has that amp, and can suggest where to set the LP and HP, with the dials. There may be a section of the manual for that, but I'm assuming you've read that, if you're asking here.

so should i only use the frequencies specified for my subwoofer? or should i use a little less? For example, say my sub hits 15hz to 500hz. Should i set my lowpass to say 20hz and my high pass to 450 or something? Wow, i just realized this, how the hell am i gonna find out what hz i am turning the **** to if they aren't labeled.

There's the problem. If they are not labeled, it's a crap shoot. If you have someone who's good at it, they might be able do to it by ear, but I can't.

house music and rap/hip hop seem to be the big thumpers. But theres some nice alternative rock and hardcore out there with some nice kick drums that will thump your head.

Some of my favourites:

Cinder - Soul Creation - the bass hits soo hard and smooth on this one..
Linkin Park - 1Stp klosr - from the Reanimation album
Shocore - Bonecracker - sounds great on a 15"
Xecutioners - It's Goin' Down
KoRn - self-titled debut album (still their best) especially tracks 1 & 2
Rammstein - great production if you can stand the vocals
The Prodigy - Diesel Power and Poison are two of my favs (more technoish)
Tool - this is essential, anything by them, best band in the world IMO
Rage Against the Machine - some great songs but not always great production
Coal Chamber - Fiend
Sevendust - Praise or Headtrip come to mind

And to expand on this topic, what are the tunes you always reach for first when you want to demo your system to somebody new? No particular genres, just for overall SQ.. The first song I usually go with is 1Stp klosr by Linkin Park.. Great bass, great highs, and some really good effects..

Dream Theater- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
The double kick drums in "The Glass Prison" sound sick!

Trivium- Ascendancy and The Crusade
The bass is decent but the production is nice and tight so it sounds really good at high volumes.

Black Label Society- Mafia
The crunch from the guitars is amazing!
