I'm not much of a car audio expert, so I'm hoping someone can give me a little advice here.

In the back of my 2000 Focus, I have a Sony XM 4045 amp powering a single 10" Kicker Sub exclusively. It was working fine for a year or so, but then, all of a sudden the sub/amp started to cut out in the middle of driving. Music would keep playing on my 4 other speakers, but those are all connected to my deck. The weird thing is, I just have to power down my deck, then turn it back on after a few seconds, and I have my sub/amp back, but only for 2-10 minutes, then it cuts out again. I checked all the amp and sub connections, I replaced the larger fuse for the amp under the hood of my car, and the smaller one on the amp itself, but the wire connections seem tight and the fuse change didn't help. I thought it might have something to do with the deck, so I just got a brand new one, made sure all the connections on the back were tight. And now the problem seems worse if anything. Oh God, please help, I want my bass back.

Is the amplifier shutting off when this happens? Next time it cuts out, check to see if the power light on the amp is still on or not.

Check the amplifier grounding spot. Corrosion may have built up since it was installed so it may need to be cleaned off again.

I had the same thing happen too. For me tho, It must be somthing iside the amp. B/c my linedriver(which always works/turns on) is hooked up to the exact same gound point, uses the same remote turn on wire, and the same power wire. I dont know how to fix this. THe amp will somtimes turn on, other times it wont. Seems to be worst now that it is cold outside. anyone got any Ideas? I may try running a power wire the the remote turn on instead of using the one off my deck/line driver. anything else I should look at?

Oh, dont mean to Hijack your post. better than starting anther one about the same thing. Right?

Assuming it isnt an equipment failure (and it could be...) disconnect then reconnect every power/ remote turn on/ RCA connection. This reeks of corrosion/moisture making a poor connection over time

To follow up my original post . . . I checked the power light on the amp after the bass cuts out, and the light stays on, but it turns red. When the sub/amp is working normally, the amp light is green.

^ Uhmmm..... sounds like its possible the outputs are gone. Thats the same indication on a Tube Driver Blue amp when the output are toasted also.
