That sucks that he wouldn't let you finish them more. I wouldn't have started the project if someone told me they were going to get their friend to do all finishing work.

so, i went too the show today, and well, there wasnt any S2000 with any install(there was one yellow one, no install done tho). so i was kinda disapointed. but other then that it was a GREAT show. TONS of cars(SCN~ and there was a F 250! WTF?) and the girls, damn where they fine... keep us updated on if the car is comin back too you guys and such...
Yah.. that was the car. The X-Box, Boton Pro 60s and Pioneer DEH-P860 were all in there, but that's pretty much it.

fiero: I have to say this. You obviously have some experience with fibreglass. I'm sure you're familiar with the procedure for finishing the surface for paint - basically bondo, sand, bondo, sand, bondo...repeat as necessary. Now I'm not a pro, I don't work in an install bay anywhere and my experience with fibreglass is probably not any better than yours but I have always finished my boxes myself, even to the point of using a high build primer and 900+ grit paper in the final stages to get a silky smooth finish. My advice to you would be to invest in two decent orbital disk sanders, one large, one small (for tight curves) and do the work yourself. Maybe it'll take longer than the experienced guys can do it, but you gotta start somewhere and it's a lot easier to f*ck up the fibreglass then it is to f*ck up the finishing - if you can do that much then you should have no problems doing at least most of the finishing. Try to get the box to the point where the body shop only has to spray a prime coat and then the paint.

The original plan was to finish it ourselves. We have all the necessairy tools and skill, we've done it before. The owner INSISTED his body man do the finishing to save him money. I really had no say in that, it was the owner's FIRM decision. We tried to convince him to let us do it, but he would not budge. Originally posted by zarx:

If you let any customer finish a job for you....it's your reputation on the line. Whether or not it's your fault, whenever someone asks "Who did the install?" and the customer points to you....you lose! Some might make sure to fully explain that it was their own fault, but human nature is to pass the buck. And no-one wants to look like a fool to their peers, so they'll blame you...if only by inference, or what they don't say.
If someone wants me to "just wire up the deck" and they'll do the rest, I charge em full price anyways. Last thing I need is a crooked install out there with my name attached.
It looks like you had the makings of a nice job underway....to bad you allowed him to go cheap....might have been a nail in someone elses coffin had you refused the job up front.
