My first post - looking for suggestions

I tend to ramble a bit, so i'll try to keep it concise. First of all, hi

I'm beginning to plan and assemble a modest little system for my 2006 Civic SI Coupe. Before I even buy/install anything, car will be fully sound deadened (it's annoyingly loud). Also rear speakers will be coming out, samewith the stock sub.

Before I get to the suggestions part, i'll quickly go over what i've tentatively settled on. H/U is an Alpine IVA-W505 that I bought and installed about a year ago.

Amplifier, i'm looking at the PDX-5. I like the small size, read alot of great things about the PDX amps, and seems like a good base that I could add to later. In building the system, i'm keeping in mind i'll probably expand on it later (going to 3-way in the front, going active, etc). Was going to bridge the 4 channels so the amp will be 150Wx2@4 + 300Wx1@4.

Subwoofer, more than likely going with an Image Dynamics IDQ12 D4. I've heard ALOT of great things about this sub, and it seems like a really good SQ sub, which is what I want. I also like that it recommends 1cu.ft for a sealed enclosure, so the box will be fairly small.

Where i'm torn and really looking for advice with is the front speakers. There's so many options, it's a bit overwhelming. I listen to mostly Metal/Hard Rock and Trance and i'd like a 6.5" 2-way system. 6.5" will be mounted in the stock location in the lower door, and tweeter will likely be mounted to the lower A-pillar.

My budget is around $500, but i'm not adverse to going higher if I find a set I really like. A local shop carries Hertz and Focal. I've also heard great things about Morel and Hybrid Audio, but not really sure of the price on those, or even if I can find somewhere relatively close to listen to them. Someone mentioned the Alpine SPX-17REF, so I was going to have a listen to those as well. Which others would you guys recommend go checking out?

Suppose it did run a bit long, sorry for that. Thanks for any advice you guys can provide

Morel is going to come darn close to the $550.00 mark and in my opinion are superior speakers. They are a company that does it right from the start, they do things way different than anyone else in the industry and it shows through with stunning results. The Hybrids are a great speaker, the tweeter a little lacking is what we have found from lots of hard core use. Focal we keep in our back pocket as a great alternative to Morel, personally again I find the tweeter is the thing that is least desireable. Top notch on the build and great midbass, like the Hybrid.

Eclipse makes a incredible sub that gets down and dirty if that is what you are after. The aluminum cone series of sub can belt out the response if tasked and reach way down low while doing it, still one of my favorite subs for the last 8 years (I think that is how long they have been out). It is ideal in a smaller sealed box as well.

I would look to a pair of amps and not the 5 channel. While I love 5 channel amps myself, in this case if you are wanting to do what you want with that much power on the front end, you had better look to more power on the sub. Not enough power means you need to go back and buy more, too much power, simple thing, turn it down. I would be looking for a slightly different amp configuration knowing full well that you are going to be expanding in the future on that front end.

Thanks very much for the reply! Hmmm, I hadn't really thought of the amplifier being a weak point. Maybe would you recommend the PDX 2.150 paired with a PDX 1.600? That might not be bad either, then if I went to an active 3-way in the future, I could just add on a PDX 4.100 or something. Or just sell them and move into something different. Another option I had considered was an Audison LRx 4.1K. Bit pricey, but not too much different from a pair of PDX amps.

$550 is quite reasonable for a set of Morels. I've heard really good things about them and their warm sound. Is that for the Dotechs, or the Hybrid Ovations? Maybe there's someone in or around the Calgary area, that wouldn't mind letting me have a listen.
