Need help choosing a box!

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of piecing together a budget system to get some more bass. The sub I chose is an Infinity 1050w...

I have an '03 accord Coupe. I'm not planning on picking up an aftermarket deck so my options are to use a LOC.

Now, I know that it's best to have a box custom made to the sub's specs, but given the fact that I'll be using a LOC (I know that this setup will not produce bass to it's full potential given the fact that I'm not getting a deck), do you guys think I should go with sealed, or ported?

I was thinking ported because generally ported boxes produce louder bass (I figure I'd try to compensate for the loss of bass I'm anticipating if I were to use a LOC and a sealed box).

So, sound gurus! Am I right to fear that I won't have enough bass with a sealed enclosure and a LOC? Which box would you guys recommend?

LOC = Line Out Converter

Lets you take your signal from regular speaker wires and converts it to an RCA out that you can then plug into your amp.

If you have to use a LOC then use one with a bass restoration feature like the re-Q. For that sub if you want to get at least a little bit of output go ported, but the box will be bigger than a sealed one...

I hear ya, I've been looking into an Audiocontrol LC6 as well. My plan was to try a generic LOC and if I wasn't happy with it, go with a higher end one like the LC6. Hadn't heard of this re-Q device before but I'll look into that too! Thanks. Now, do I get a custom ported box made to spec? Or can I go with any one? Will there be a huge difference?

If cost is an issue right now a generic LOC will work. Will it sound as good as it could no, but it will work. The LC6 and ReQ are not cheap. It is almost cheaper to buy a low end deck instead. Any particular reason you are set on keeping the factory one? Definately go with the custom ported box. The difference is going to be huge especially with a lower end sub. I can help you with the box, PM me I'm in Brampton.

Well, many people who own 7th Gen accords know that the only real option we have is to mount an aftermarket deck in the lower cubby holder (which I really don't want to do... not to mention I'll lose dual climate and steering wheel controls and what not). Also, having a second deck underneath the factory deck looks kind of ridiculous IMO. Unless it's a 7" screen (which I don't have the cash for). So yes, money is kind of an issue too.
