Need a little bit of help.

Hey guys, I’m brand new here and was wondering If I could get some input before I go out and finish buying my system (Since I feel like I can trust you guys better then the shops.).

Right now In my Sunfire I have

Deck: Alpine CDA-9855
Speakers: Kicker KS46 and KS69

I was thinking of getting either 1 or 2 Kicker 12L7's but wasn't sure if I should go for 2 or 4ohms.

Also am I correct in assuming I would need a 300.4 amp to run my speakers and a 750.1 or 1500.1 amp to run my sub(s).

Next this is the part that really confuses me because I’ve been told so many different stories from shops around my area. Do I need to dynamat my truck and doors? Do I need a HO Alternator?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Ok first thing first.

the personally, I would go for 4 ohm versions if your amplifiers can put out 1500W into 4 ohm, because it is less stress on the electrical system in your truck.

General rule of thumb for example, is that a 4 ohm driver at X watts, is going to use more voltage, and fewer amps, whereas a 2 ohm driver at X watts, is going to use more amps, but less voltage. So if staying with the stock Alt. your amps using fewer amps, is always a plus...

You have a few differnt options as far as wiring configurations, using Dual 4 Ohm, and Dual 2 Ohm.

4 Ohm DVC wired in Series / Parallel will yield a 4 ohm load at the amp, whereas DVC 2 ohm will yield a 2 ohm load at the amp
4 Ohm DVC wired in Parallel / Parallel will yield a 1 ohm load at the amp, whereas DVC 2 ohm will yield a 0.5 ohm load at the amp.

With that in mind, IMO the 4 om drivers would be easier to power, oposed to buying an amp that will perform at 1, or half ohm.

As far as power goes, 1500W for 2 L7's would be a good starting point..

Do you need to Dynamat? ( or cheaper, yet still very effective alternative) no. you don't have to, but I woulad seriously think about doing it. it will help out with the rattles in the doors, making the speakers sound a lot better, as far as deadening other portions of the truck for the Subs, I'm not the best person to give advice on that directly.... If you had a car then I would say 100%, but in a truck I'm not too farmiliar with the best practices, or locations where you should concentrate the deadening.

As far as a HO Alt... I'm not sure how many amps youe Alt puts out, and how much of that is being used by the Truacks electrical system, you might be able to get away with out one if you upgrade the battery, but at 2000w I'd really think about it.

regards, Mark
