Talking Need a little help understanding...

Hello,

I had my system installed yesterday at selective sound, the install is very clean and sounds great. I would highly recommend them to anyone no mater what size job.

The only thing is Kicker sent them the wrong box for my 4 Ohm DVC 12" L7, they wanted the 2 Ohm box and got the 4 Ohm box and didnt open it till yesterday. So they put the sub in that box for now and should have the 2 Ohm box for me this week.

Now this is where I get confused with the electrical jargon, I am running a Memphis 16 st1500D to a single 12" L7, the amp runs 750watts rms at 4 Ohms and 1500watts rms at 2Ohms.... so does that mean when the 2 Ohm box comes in the L7 will be running at 1500watts rms?

Since they are the pro's I am sure they know what they are doing, I was just thinking about that last night in bed.

I know you said you have a DVC 4ohm sub so i am going to assume that is the one that is in the box right now as you stated.....if that is the case their is no reason why your sub cannot be wired to 2ohm's right now the box that it is does not stop the subwoofer from being wired the way you want it.

unless you ment you have a svc 4ohm now..

It is in a kicker box which comes pre-wired from what I have read about them, and then you just hook the amp up to the terminals...

so instead of tearing the box apart to rewire it, I think they just want to order the right box. I am not sure I was just told that they would order the 2ohm box and give me a call when it comes in.

My biggest concern with my lack of knowledge is this, I know at 4Ohms the 12" L7 is 750rms does that mean at 2Ohms it can handle 1500rms? even though it is covered under warranty I dont want to see the cone shooting out of my trunk

The box Kicker sent me was a dual 2 ohm not a dual 4 ohm ohm, so even if I wanted to I cannot rewire it to 2 ohms. The sub will be fine even when you have it a 2 ohms.

To answer your question, yes it will be 1500 watts at 2 ohm. it will handle it and it will sound nice and loud.

Selective is a very good shop. Post some pics of the install.

oh sorry for the misunderstanding, and thanks guys. I thought the sub would be fine other wise I doubt you would run it at 2 Ohms, I just couldnt find info on the sub for the RMS at 2 ohms. I may just have to put my spare 1500D to work but then I will have next to no trunk space.... lol

I will post pics once the new box is installed and bolted down, though there isnt much to see since it is a very clean install...

I'm glad you like it. I should have your new box in tomorrow, but I will call you to confirm when it does come in.
