Alpine SPX-17REF setup question?

Hi, I finished off installing my new stereo sysem in my truck. I put in alpine spx-17ref speakers in the front. I used a single input from a pdx4-150 amp to each side. My qustion is in the box that comes with it it has different db levels for the tweeters and I'm having trouble controlling the highs. they seem to much. I also have setting on the deck. I just wanted to know how to set the crossover in the box. I will post a picture of the crossover. You just put a jumper in where you want it at. Also, I wanted to run bigger wire to these speakers but the truck has plugs in the doors for the speaker wiring and I didn't want to drill holes. So. I just wired into the factory wiring off my amp to the doors. How much will that affect the performance of these speakers with smaller wiring going to them? Thanks

If your top end is too bright, move the jumpers on each crossover to the next setting, from 0 to -1.5, then to -3 etc. Retest after each setting. Using the factory wires is not going to have a huge effect for most people. For some though, it is a shortcut that they do not wish to take. Here is a link to to a thread I created that shows how to get a wire into your door.

I have the tweeters from my spx set in my dash and they were too bright as well. Even setting the passive crossover at -6db I was not getting the sound I wanted. I had to go to a fully active setup and take the tweeters down -8db via the active crossover. Now they sound smooth.

Thanks, Thats a great help. I will try and set up the tweeter a bit better using the crossover. I also, have some options in my deck as well. I still would like to put in the heavier speaker wire and you instuctions where great. Thanks for the info its really apprecated.
