I'm sure this scenario has been debated before but here goes...

I am trying to decide if it is worth doubling my power to my front soundstage. I have Diamond Audio 6.5 HEX midbass and 5.25 Hex for 400 hz and up. The speaker's "optimum" RMS rating is 150 for the 6.5s and 100 for the 5.25s. I am pushing these speakers with a JL Audio 300/2 which gives 150 x 2 (Diamond crossovers allow a two channel to run the midbass and then pass through to run the midranges all at 4 OHMS).

A Diamond Audio tech suggested I need more power (he recommended another 300/2) to really get the rich midbass the speakers are able to produce. I often hear people commenting that you really don't need to match the speaker's RMS to get adequate output, in this case, I am giving 300 watts to speakers that would optimally have 500 watts. Who out there agrees that an extra 200-300 watts would make a noticeable difference (noticeable enough to spend cash on an extra amp that is).

I think more power would definatly get your speakers to play louder... and extra headroom never hurt anyone.... but power compression considered... meh, you'll gain about 1 notch on the volume control.....

Is it worth another 300/2 ????

You ask if you should but you fail to mention what it is you don't like about your current sound.
Do you feel you lack midbass now? If your doors are properly sound deadened then adding more power to your midbass drivers would definitely be a good choice since they are getting ~half of their rated power handling.

If the current system sounds fine then leave it.
If you want to see if it would sound better with more power then you have your answer right there. Go buy another 300/2 or ask the shop where you bought your other JL's to let you audition a second 300/2 in your car and if it improves the sound in your ears then you can go ahead and purchase it.

Man if you got the cash to burn just go for it... I don't think you'll regret much... If ya only want more power to your ****, sell your JL amp and buy a couple generic but good high power 4ch amps to bridge down....

^^as long as your electrical system is up to it. I have found that I am at max power now for my electrical system. I am not interested in upgrading it anymore( I have a high output alt, 190 amp, big 3 with 0 awg pwr and gnd, and an extra HD battery)and it still dims(slightly) on heavy kick drum transients.

Decide on what you want and what your car can handle. It's no use putting in equipment and not getting a benefit from it.

I found that the Diamond's sounded awesome at low to mid volume but when you start to push them the sound quality went way down.
