Need some Info

I have a 99 Cavalier with a JVC KD G320 deck already in it. The front compents are some old pioneer premiers I put in but are on their way out, and the back I put in some cheap 6x9 just to replace the stock ones. I'm looking to upgrade the front components and put in amp to power them. Looking for some midrange to upper midrange components and an amp to power them and the 6x9 at the back which say 400w on them. Just looking for suggestions on equipment and whether I should get a 4 channel amp for this. I also plan to add another amp and subs sometime in the future.

I would recommend a 4 channel amp for sure. Some people will tell you what works for them, work with what works for you. A 4 channel amp can be configured to power only the front speakers or the front and rear so it is going to allow you to make your own choice. I personally would be running the amp in 4 channel mode. 50w rms x 4 is usually more than a ample amount of power but more is never a bad thing at all. Ignore the wattage claim on the speakers, give those 6x9's 400watts of power and they are going to ignite and play smoke on the water....

A good system for you is going to be carefully balanced. If you know what type of output you are looking at in the future sub system, it will allow me to narrow down some choices on speakers and amplifiers for the front end. What size speakers are you after for the front, what budget do you have and the question about the future sub system is what I need answered before I can put together some recommendations for you on the system overall.

Well I think I've decided on either the Phoenix Gold RSD 6.5" for the front and as for the future subs I'm not too sure yet, but I'm thinking something comparable powerwise to the rockford p2s or maybe a bit more. My budget for the amp is probably $200-$300, somwhere around there but the cheaper the better.
