Question Need subwoofer advice!

Hello!

I don't know much into car audio so I'm asking you advice.

I just bought JBL 527 (front door) and jbl 927 (rear) and an Alpine 9881.

I wish to buy subwoofer and amp with a 600$ top (taxe and shipping included)

I was looking into the Rockford Fosgate P2L-212 ($279.99) and Rockford Fosgate Punch P400-2 ($319.99) to match it.

I have a Mazda protege 2000 and I wish to put the sub in my trunk.

I don't want to do any sort of competition, I just want to listen rap hip-hop and nü-metal.

Is this a good setup or you recommand something else?

I don't want to buy from ebay or something used.

EDIT: I don't have time and skill to build a box, so please match one if it won't come with.

Thanks a lot;

check out local shops or best buy or future shop.

BB has JBL Alpine and the rest are junk
FS has Infinity, Energy, MTX and the rest are junk

and from where you are witch i dont know well just check em out bud. its your best bet so far cause even if you buy online you just dont know if you really like it, like the way it sounds. do you like the sound of a ported or sealed. do you think you need more power or less to meet your needs.

this is why im asking you to actually go to a shop, listen, price, then come back here and ask more Q's

lol im not telling you to f off :P im just giving you the best way of doing this the right way. ohh you also need a wireing kit

Hi,

Thank you for your answer,

I already went to bestbuy, futurshop and another one called "centre hi-fi" wich sells jbl, alpine and junk like you say :P

I don't really like to listen to subwoofer over there because they won't sound the same in a car and a lot different in a trunk.

My friend has an infinity with a custom box in an mazda 323, I like the bass a lot but the trunk is open to the car. We will put it in my car to see if it sounds good.

I would really like to buy alpine or infinity but the problem is that I can't make a custom box so I need to buy one. If you know a really good combination of subwoofer, box and amp for 600$ I would appreciate it!

btw, the Rockford Fosgate P2L-212 is 2 sub in a made to spec box from rockford, since a box like that would cost near 100$, i don't think I could get something really better for that price, no?

thank you guys!

Hi,

I went back to those local store yesterday and I found something that could be very interresting.

I would like to know if this will work.

I get this
Rockford p2L-212 ( DVC bridged at 4 ohm, 400 RMS )

at 279.99$

and instead of getting the amp in my first post, I get this one :
MRP - 650 ( mono amp, 400 rms at 4 ohm )

at 199$ at my hifi center. (they have 5 left)

Will this work correctly? I mean, the sub are bridged inside the box and they are at 4 ohm and Dual voice coil. they take 400 rms.

Is it safe to connect the mrp-640 knowing it gives 400 rms at 4 ohm? will this work?

thank you very much!

Hi,

Cool I'm glad to hear that will work !

I think I'm going with this deal, p2l-212 + mrp-650.

But now i'm worried a little bit, I put 6'9's in rear and they are like free-air in the trunk facing top. The sub will be just under those 6'9's in the trunk so I don't know if it will likely beat those speaker when it plays loud bass?

I tested my friend's sub in my trunk and the factory speakers moves a lot, knowing he has a 12" vented infinity kappa perfect, will my rockford 2 * 12" stage 2 be a danger for my new 6X9 JBL gto 927?

Thank you!

i never had a porblem in my old car, but if you want the extra protection get the plastic or foam baffle that you can find at canadian tire or wally world.
