New to car audio? Start here.

And apparently it does. So I guess this time I should say something. I'm just getting back into car audio after almost 30 years on the sidelines, concentrating on home audio. Boy, this ain't Kansas any more. Total paradigm shift: from an absolute minimalist home audio system anchored by some of Don Morrison's finest work, to this: working up to a car system with 11 drivers, 11 channels of amplification, and nothing but active crossovers. Old-school in the back, modern in the front. That's the plan, anyway. Too bad I keep buying stuff and then changing my mind about it as the plan evolves. Too bad also that all I've actually done so far is put my old a/d/s 300is in the back, and that I don't even know how to get the deck out of the dash yet. Like I said: work in progress, early days yet. I'll keep yuz posted.

I enjoyed and gained a lot of informative details form your post. I hope that you will show us again some of the posts about car audio. I have been wanting to provide my car but since I don't have enough money yet to purchase the needed gears, I just read different forums so I know what to buy the moment I have made stable my financial status.

That good bad and ugly list is not very helpful at all. I know sony isnt greatest by any means but for people who arent rich its prtety decent. I got a 500 watt amp Sony and it rocks pretty hardcore. And the Sony cd player I got is pretty solid too and works great.
Pyramid subs are insane if hooked up properly. My friend bought some that were in an enclosure and they each had 2 sets of positives and negatives and the way he showed us out you hook them up is when one pounded in the other would pound out and they were facing each other and they were crazy loud.
So my advise to people is not to bother with that list lol

problems with sub
hey i checked out all these sites and i havent been able to find an answer to my question. i have a 10" kaption spl witht the original box for it running off an alpine tsx 1000 i think it is and the sub itself is making a vibratting rattling noise whenever music is on even on low. do you know anything about this? i just bought the sub two days ago and someone else told me it could be a voice coil or my surround is gone or there is dc going to the sub itself which i would imagine dc would mean direct current. im a newbie but ive done alot of researching but i still cant figure this out. please help.
