New Guy Here
Hey Guys,
This looks like a very knowledgeable forum and that I can learn a lot of things from you guys. Im still kind of a noob with regards to car audio. I'm about to get a JL 12W0 and it puts out about 125W RMS but according to http://www99.epinions.com/615766_JL_Audio_12_Component_Subwoofer_12W0/display_~reviews, it is so much more than 125W RMS. Now, has anyone had any experience with this sub? I'm looking for a decent amp to power it up, possibly less than $150. Do you think I should be looking at mono, 2-channel, or 4-channel? I don't plan on replacing my OEM speakers right now, but I've already replaced my deck with a JVC one. And finally, do you think I should go local or get stuff from ebay? Thanks in advance.

okay grasshopper you have much to learn.
Subs don't put out wattage. the wattage rating is actually it's thermal dissipation rating. Which means how much heat the voice coil can handle. other than for competions it's really not one of the more important factors in selecting a speaker. things such as Sensitivity, XMAX, and other factors play a more important role.
the W0's are good performaring subs for entry level doubt. but if you're envisioning window flexing bass. spend more time doing research and gaining some knowledge before buying yyour system..
It's always better to do it once..and do it right. Too many people spend fortunes on equipment they blow up or are unhappy with only to finally achive their goals after making alot of mistakes.
Welcome aboard, look around, get some ideas, don't be afraid to ask questions.

no i know the sub doesnt put out wattage. i meant by "so much more than 125W RMS" is that it can handle bigger amps. some guy was even talking about feeding it 600W. im on a tight budget right now as I'm a student and I pay a lotta bills.

that would work well. if you're only running that little power, go with a class a/b amp. the extra control and umph would be well worth it. when you decide to upgrase also you'll have a respectible 2 channel amp to run your fronts
