So i got a new L7 in a vented box, built by the "pros".
The deck is an alpine 9815
The amp is a kicker DX700.1
The sub is dual 4s wired to 2 ohms
Here the thing,Ive used it for about a week now with the gain all the way down to ease it into life a little.
So now i'm trying to set the gain on my amp and the sub makes a poping noise(over excursion?)
Is it possible that it needs more time to "break in" or is it maybe the tuning is too high and its dipping below tuning freq and unloading?
I'm setting the gain with the sub out set @ +7 so i have room to go either way for different music types.
For the life of me i cant remember the tuning freq of the box,but i'll contact the dealer and find out what they did.
Oh and the amp has a subsonic filter and it is "on".
I was more interested in a sealed enclosure and was kinda sweet talked into a ported, i was told the l7 will handle 750 watts ported "no sweat"?

Any help is welcomed.

it sounds like you are feeding that sub an extremely clipped signal or you are playing below the frequency the box it tuned at.

what gain are you setting at +7?

sounds like your deck is turn to high (bass) but that is ok as long as your amp is turned all the way down , if u max out the amp and turn up your deck bass u will kill the sub very soon back everything off a bit and u will have no warrenty issues

If all else fails, depending on the size of the port, shove a shirt, or hoodie or something in the port that will allow less air to pass. I think you should try whats listed in the above posts first. But if what you said is correct about the tunning being wrong, then this is an easy way to fix it.

popping usually means the VC is hitting the back plate in my experience...

try turning the SS filter frequency up...

^Ya thats what it seems like, unfortunatly its not ajustable(25hz @24 octave)
The eq on the deck is set @ flat The crossover is @80 hz no bass boost at all.
Subout on the dack is @ +7 so if its 4 volts @ +15 it should be roughly 2.0 volts @ + 7 right?
The input sens to the amp goes to 3.0 volts and i'm only getting to about 25-30 % gain when this happens.
And also i was setting the gain with the deck volume only @ 28 it goes to 35
As far as clipping the amp.....I dont think so...

Id try tuning the box lower...

In all honestly Id might tell the shop that the whole setup sucks *** and ask to exchange it for something else...

L7s =

By compairison a pair of compVRs ported between 25-30hz should rock your car and sound alright...

Na the guys actually real cool about it im gonna go there monday and were gonna figure it out.
I'm just trying to gain some insight here to the problem.

What about adding some polyfill? will that in effect tune it lower?

Does anyone know about alpine decks? The voltage output of this deck is 4 volts.
So when is the sub out @ 4 volts?
I'm assuming , well not totally) cause ive heard some talkabout.
Anyways im assuming its +15(sub out) @ about 30 out of 35 (volume)
