New re audio sxx subs not sounding good
New re audio sxx subs not sounding good
I just got my sxx 10's and today I put them in a box that is the right cubes with port forward. I had 2 10 re audio's before in a bassworx box with the subs forward and the ports up and it sound way better then this new setup. I am dissapointed to say the least. I wonder why its not as good now. The box the are in should work as it is to specs. IDK. Any ideas?
Ok I will try that but don't see how that would help. According to qlogic the box is tuned to 37 hz. It is a prefab for 2 12's but I refaced it for 2 10's. Better match on air space but sounds like its in a hole. Very muddy and no kick.
Lots of questions and I am not sure I hit the mark diagnosing it (though your description sounds like a poor seal)
EDIT: so I am reading some of your other posts... what were your old speakers doing you didnt like?
Nothing has changed on my amp or anything else. I tried switching polarity and checked my wiring. Each sub is dual 4 ohm. I have them wired in parallel for a 2 ohm sub then wired in parallel again to the amp for a 1 ohm load. The amp is bxi 2006d hifonics 1 ohm stable. I glued and screwed the new baffle over top of the holes so should be seald fine. there shouldn't be any flex as I used 3/4 mdf and its not very wide. I think its the port. I think qlogic lies about there specs. Could the port be too big? As far as my other subs I cooked them by being gain happy so I replaced them with the same subs ( they were sx 10's ) just the newer version ( sxx ) and decided to use a different box that was ported forward. People on hear said that that would work better then ports up which I had before. It still hits good but no where near what is was like before.
This is what I had till I fried them. I figured I could get even more bass by putting them in the right box. I was wrong.

I hope you can understand why I am so frustrated.

I understand your frustration, we just have to fix one thing at a time to finally get you where you want to be. Lets assume the new speakers (are new and) work properly. that would leave us with 1-amp, 2- power supply, 3- wiring, 4- box, 5- source.
1- swap in a different amp (borrow one)
2- So go through the system electrically and tighten and clean up every electrical connection. Is your wiring the correct gauge? Is your voltage to the amp staying over 12V
3- try wiring to a different impedance, my experience with RE woofers is the impedance was off
4- Seal up the box (just stuff the port and duct tape the hole) to see if it sounds good sealed. verify no air leakage around the woofers (it is still the easiest answer) try a little smoke around the seal
5- swap in a CD walkman or an ipod directly to the amp
all of this testing is free... until you find a problem anyway

All my electrical is good and runs at 14 volts steady. I have the big 3 done and use all 1/0 g wire. I will try the smoke idea to see if there are any leaks. Wiring to a differnent impedence? Why would that help. It would be wired to 4 ohms not 1 that way. Less power. I think the new sxx subs are not like the old sx and they don't like the box. All other variables are the same. I am going to buy a different box and see if that makes a differnce. If not I will return the box and will be forced to build my own. I really hope its not the subs or my faith in re has gone out the window.
The impedance could be an issue if there is actually an amplifier issue rather than a sub issue... trust me it wont take that much time as RE isn't religious at making their impedance points.
and that is 14 volts steady at the amp correct?
What you have described is an odd problem, and I am looking for non-standard problems. I am also suggesting free testing and looking for free solutions... refreshing eh!
Lets hope this is not an issue where the new RE stuff is wildly different or heaven forbid inferior.

I took out my subs and rechecked the conections. They are wired correctly to 1 ohm at the amp. I tried running the subs outside the box ( very low of course ) and noticed a scratchy, popping noise from the one sub. I tried running 1 coil at a time but same noise. Sub still worked fine just had a loud noise to it. The sub is defective. Piece of gargabe re is now. I put them back in the box and decided to wire it up again to see if by chance I had it wired wrong to begin with and ignore the strange noise. Nope, same thing. Good bass but not crazy like I had before. To boot after about a minute my amp went into protect. Ok no big deal right, wrong. Now my amp is fried from these garbage subs. My amp goes into protect now every time I plug in the rca's even with no speaker wire hooked up. Not only did I get bunk subs but they fried my amp. I am very disapointed in re and will be sending them a nasty email.
