new stuff

i just picked up the phoenix gold radial sd 5" component set, and an octane r 4.0.2. i think the components will definately satisfy me, although im not sure if i got burned for buying the octane amp or not. right now it is bridged to an old 10" rockford and sounds decent (the box is so bad i cant tell if its the problem or not), but in the future it will power a rear channel.

basically i just want to know if anybody has had any bad run-ins with the new pg stuff before its too late. also can anybody comment on why these amps show no signs of the csa 2006 rating mumbo jumbo, or should i belive 400w is a 'max' rating, and its closer to 200w?

The reason for the no CEA2006 rating was to try and target the Max Power market. You know the kids that go out and purchase an amp because it says 1000Wmax on it. Now PG's attempt was not as bad. We found with those amps its roughly 2/3's of the max is you rms so around 264wrms on that amp. And the components inside are not classic PG type parts. A little cheaper built so on and so on. I sold a few when PG came out with them and didn't get one back and people seemed to like them enough but I have heard of some failing. It was PG's attempt to let everyone regardless of budget own a PG piece. Also alot to do with the sale and reconstruction of PG.

Nope, not at all. The Rockford rating system is legit. Your amp is rated at 200w rms x 2 into 4 ohm, 400w rms x 2 into 2 ohm. In mono the amp is rated to the 2 ohm stereo power rating, 400w x 2 = 800w x 1. This is the guaranteed minimum power that this model of Rockford amp makes. In this case, it makes more power as evidenced by the certificate that comes with it. The 1008w rms into 4 ohm x 1 is a shat load of power for a 2 channel amp.
