Newbie advice needed please

I am currently building a 1971 Firebird and have been lurking on this and other sites for some time. I am starting to accumulate components for my first build system in 20 years and looking for some advice.

The goal is not a super high end audiophile or a shake the neighborhood system, just good sounding system with some punchy bass. I think I need to install a pair of 6.5” speakers (components or 2 way???) in the door panels. I have a pair of Energy 6X9 speakers for rear fill and a 10” sub that I will build a ported box for.

I have listed the components I currently have below and am looking for advice regarding what 6.5” speakers to use, your comments on the components I currently have and any other useful advice that you may have.

Considering the size of those doors you could put the 6X9s in there no problem and forget the rears for now......bridge the 4 channels into 2 and run them off 190W/side.....

As long as you HPF them at 70-80hz or so they will take the power just fine.

Only bummer I see is the sub.....with a single 4ohm coil you won't be getting the most out of the sub channel on the amp....it should still sound good (especially if the box is correct) just not as loud as it could be.....

It will take quite a bit of deadener to cover those doors, you will want to put a fair bit of it on the outside skin as well or it's going to ring like a bell.....

Nice choice on equipment.....a good install and you should have a sweet(er) ride.....

Thanks for the reply BigRed.

I did want to buy the sub with dual voice coils and run @ 2 ohms; however the sales person at East Hamilton Radio insisted that since I did not want an exteremly loud system, that the sungle vc @ 4 ohms would be easier on the amp and give me what I wanted. I am considering going back to get the dual v.c. model.

Any thoughts.

I would go with the DVC. If it is too much you can always reduce the gain on the sub channel. If you go with the SVC and it isn't enough, well now you're stuck.

Make sure you have a good look at the door panel without the interior panel on it to be sure where you can mount speakers. I can't remember ever doing a set of door speakers in that generation of Firebird but the generation after it was nasty to put door speakers in, especially with power windows..
