Noob Again
Noob Again
Hey out there.
I just wanted to say hi. And as for being a noob again, well...... lets see here..... the last time I messed arround with anything decent was when HK amps cost a fortune, my Alpine deck was the only pull out left in production with RCA out only, and Redine speakers were awesome.
I was bit by the speed bug for a while and now that Im somewhat grown out of it Id like to learn about whats more current and hopefully do some work to my 03 maxima (not the one with the bose system).
Richard.

Richard, come up with a game plan of what it is you would like to see for a system in the Maxima. Figure out if this will be a step by step process or a do it once do it right system. Know what you need as far as head unit goes, not brand but options like Blueooth (as cell phone use is now illegal without a handsfree device), USB / Ipod, Navigation etc. Do you want to give up some or all of the trunk area for a sub box? Lots of considerations and lots of great people on the site to help you out as well. I remember the Alpine pullouts, HK amps and redline speakers quite well. I still have a Alpine pull out hiding in my store that works quite well.

You will find this place is a regular fountain of good information.......with the odd pile of complete crap thrown in for good measure.....

Feel free to ask questions about anything....the various sections of the forum are visited by lots of knowledgeable folks every day and you should be able to get yourself "re-tuned" in no time......
Thanks alot guys,
Unfortunately like most folks my mind tells me one thing and my wallet tells me another. Fortunately the car is not my daily driver and I can sacrifice some trunk space for what I'd like to accomplish. Also, nowadays I just like cruzin around when I get a chance. Id love for the day to come when the car is "show worthy" but I know that I am a looong time and money away from that.
That being said, eventually I'm likely to purchase a car computer of some sort to handle my needs as far as multimedia and engine management. For the time being I plan on using my OE head unit with something similar to a Clean Sweep unit to handle a more economical setup until I can get into 1st class gear.
The idea I've been rolling around in my head is to create some type of complete bass (as I call it). I listen to a wide variety of music and I think I can pull off something decent. I am sitting on a pair of old school Earthquake 8's, and what Id like to do is seek out and pair them with a single 15.
I was thinking having the 8's in a sealed type of enclosure and the 15 in a ported type.
Am I off by thinking this? Like I said Im not looking for anything crazy SQ or SPL, just capable.

HTH
I dont know if the cavity of the door is enough to set them in, and even if I had to make a mild grill of some sort wouldnt be bad, but Im trying to stay away from something that is ovbiously crazy (to and untrained eye).
I'll have to pop er on open and have a look. It is indeed worth investigating.
