I Just thought because the amp was only rated 1/2 of what my sub was that it would not blow from it?

Nopers, while too much power is the root cause of failure of a sub, someone pushing an amp that has not enough power can be as equally as damaging. When you use something too small and expect too much, it equals disaster for speakers. What happens here is simple, the amplifier reaches full power, above that it clips. Clipping is distortion and it causes a lack of control of the motion of the speaker. It also introduces a huge amount of heat into the voicecoils of the speaker trying to make the speaker do what it is told to. End result is the coils melt on you. Now if the gain is set properly and you do not expect too much from the amp, then it is usually not a issue. This also ties right back with the too small a wire issue that you had previous.

I'd pay $149 (new with warranty) but I wouldn't want to spend $100 at F-U shop. I went to a retailer and was quoted $5000 for a Kicker 2500W amp, I told him the same amp is on ebay for $350, he said "but this has warranty", and I said I could buy 13 of those on ebay instead, they just don't get it.

Why do you say that??

You already have an ongoing electrical issue with your old amp.....adding a bigger amp without changing anything else is asking for problems.....

Don't be surprised if you blow your alt and possibly the battery as well by the end of the summer.......I won't even mention the potential fire hazard from all that current being drawn through the too-small power wire......

For the record larger wire has a lower gauge number.....you should have 4ga in there by now....power and ground, not forgetting The "Big 3".
