Exclamation Opinions on a new setup!!!!

Well I am selling my blazer cuz it costed me $75 to fill my tank a few days ago . I won't have room for my 15's anymore and now that I will have a small car I can drive to spl comps that are out of state. This means I am upgrading the system. I thought I should carry out my plans with out help because I THINK (lol, not for sure, yet) that I have enough knowledge now to know what I am doing and I should be able to build a competitave system by myself but I thought, "What the heck, its free information" so I am gonna see what everyones thoughts on my (hopefully ) future set up is.

I want to compete in Street Class B with the following:
Three 2006 Kicker L7's (600 watts rms each) powered by a SoundStream PCA2000D (2000 watts rms at 1 ohm)

Here is a link to the amp: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=31 95 . I am positive the kickers will do good but I needed an amp that won't break my wallet.
1. What do you guys think of soundstream ???
2. has anyone heard this amp or any other PCA amps???
3. Do you think I will hear a negative diff in sq going from an infinity amp to soundstream???
4. Do you think this amp really puts out 2000 watts rms???
5. Would I be right by saying that three 10"s would be more surface area than two 12"s???
6. Do you guys think this sounds like a winning set up for local events???

Lol, I always have lots of questions. Thanks for your opinions.

Actually... sounds like a really good setup.

The 3 10's should have more surface area, so you're definitely right in that regard.

As for the amp.. I don't think you'll see too much of a difference in SQ if they're both Class D amps.

If you can shell out the extra cash for the 3500 then I'd suggest going that way. Just hunt around for a good deal.

Otherwise... good job, have fun with it!

Thanks. I gave myself a $1000 spending limit for amp and subs because I have college in a year but I will check it out on ebay and some other sites. Also, if I buy the 3500 I am afraid that I will put to much faith into the subs and give them more power than they can handle and fry the coils. That would suck. Is there a way to measure how many watts the amp is putting out??? Because it would be nice to have that much power (less distortion at higher volumes of course)

I do think they look awesome but I wanna try out the squares. A friend of mine has two 12" L5's (...that were installed by some dumb asses at Best Buy. Seriosly, i don't see how these dudes got a job working with car electronics) and they slam way louder than my two 15" cvr's. So I am going to try out the squares for myself .

I think the very rough way to determine power output of an amp in watts is to disconnect the sub from the amp, take an ac voltage reading off of the speaker leads (use a test tone) and then power = voltage^2 / resistance of speaker(s)

This will only put you in the ballpark of actual output though.

I don't mean to knock you.... but that really won't give him anything close.

You have no way of knowing what resistance the amp will be seeing from the speakers. The nominal load tells you nothing. There WILL be impedence rise from the box, and this is what you will need to know in order to get the power from the amp.

If you really want to measure accurately then you'll need 2 true-RMS meters. Find out voltage and current.

Then use ohms law to find out the resistance at the freq you were testing at and use ohms/voltage to find out power.
