Question

I am looking into purchasing an optima yellow top for my car and there are some for sale on ebay that im looking at. They seem to be a good price (99US for the 51 series for the honda/acura cars) but I have heard that you cant ship them across the border. Is this true and if so where is the best place to get yellow tops?

deep cycle batteries are only good if you listen to your stereo while your car is off and the yellow top is not designed to be a primary (starter) battery. on the other hand the red top is but isnt deep cycle

a better way to do it would be to have the red top as your primary battery and the yellow top in your trunk to run your stereo...this being done with a battery isolator

Well why is there a yellow top specially designed to fit in the factory honda battery tray if they arent good for starting?

I am planning on only using 1 battery which is why I want a yellow top.

Don't bother with Optima, go straight to Excide batteries. Great Deep Cycle seletion.

Do you have a link for exide batteries? Why do you say forget optimas and go with these, I need something that will give me enough juice but still fit in the factory battery tray.

id keep the battery you have right now as your primary battery add a battery isolator and use the yellow top in the trunk to run your system...this is assuming you have done the necessary alternator upgrade

honestly the yellow top will start your car but for how long who knows??? as for y they make a yellow to fit in a civic's stock battery location...i guess its about demand...people are willing to pay for it y not?

So your saying that after awhile having an optima yellow top as my starter wouldnt be a good option? I am going to be running alot of power and yes I plan on getting a nice H/O alt. I only want to have 1 battery in the car so if you can give me a suggestion for that then it would help alot.

I am running an Optima Red Top as the starter battery and an Optima Yellow Top in the trunk with a battery isolator. With the car running, both batteries are working, with the car off, only the Yellow Top is juicing the stereo. But even with a 2nd battery in my trunk, I never listen to the stereo with ignition off. The only time the car is off and the stereo is playing is during an IASCA competition when the sq judges are in my car. I also had my alternator re-built to provide more amperage.

I'd spend my money on a proper alternator before buying another battery. you alternator is your main source of power...why bother adding extra batteries when you can spend a little more, and buy a proper component, that is a real fix, not a quick almost-fix

a yellow top like i said is pretty much pointless unless you like to drain your battery lots (ie running your system with your car off)...the yellow top can handle being drained and recharged numerous times without doing much damage but a normal battery cant...thats the only advantage of going with a yellow top

id have to agree with the other guys...alternator first...batteries later (if there is a need)...depending on what kind of car you drive if its an import a h/o alt will cost anywhere from 300-400USD that'll get you around 160-200amps...maybe a little cheaper if you have a domestic
