Optima Batteries?

A good battery will keep a clean noise free source to the amplifiers.

It is quite startling with the amount of discussion on the internet about charging systems that so many people can still be so misinformed/confused.
No I am not going to say what is correct as those that know they are right are.

Deep Cycle vs Standard Battery:
A normal lead-acid battery will be damaged if it is completely drained (even if it's only one time).
A deep cycle battery is designed to survive being drained multiple times.
Deep cycle batteries have more reserve capacity but have less cranking amps for a given size.
A standard battery would have more total surface area on its plates when compared to a deep cycle battery of equal size. This extra surface area provides more area for the chemical reaction to take place and therefore produce a higher output current.
The electrolyte in a deep cycle will be a slightly more concentrated sulfuric acid than a standard battery.
read the above and decide for yourself if a deep cycle battery is really worth while...and im not sure about shipping an optima across the border but considering it has a higher concentration of sulfuric acid than a normal battery id say no as it would be classified as a dangerous good but im not 100% sure

I love them. If I could afford one I would get one, but I'm homeless in case you didn't notice. So i took the liberty of constructing my own "Yellow Top" battery. I purcahsed fifty d size duracells from costco, used lots of tape to wire them together. This provided plenty of volts for my amplifiers, but it wasn't as I ketching so I cut up my old battery, ripped out the plates and put this assembly inside, painted it yellow for half the cost of a real, and possibly "better" yellow top Optima.

i've run a deep cycle/marine starting battery for 3yrs.the car is my daily driver, and i have had fewer problems than with the original batt. amps run cooler.a cap and larger alt. are also good ideas, but a battery is the best bang for the buck.

Scarlem; I have a full size (not the Honda half one) Yellow top in my Civic too, works fine! I just got it at Costco, it was cheaper there than my dealer could get it for me at cost.
