optima red top battery 34/78 question

I have 2 options, either buy a brand new for around $250 locally
OR
buy a used one for $80 (and the guy said "it's 6 months old and the battery has passed load test and I have the tester to show you")

would you say go for the used one or is there a risk?

There is something fundamentally wrong with selling something for $170 less than someone paid for it 6 months ago. Unless he has a really good reason for selling it that cheap I'd be wary =P

he said this "I've sold the car that it went into and just dont need it anymore" when i asked for the reason of selling it.
he wants 100$ and when i asked how flexible is he, he said he can let it go for $80..

what do you think.. sketchy?

Hmm I dunno. Could go either way IMO, could be a steal, just depends whose pitching.

I'd tell him you'll give him $100 for it if he'll meet you at a shop that can test it for you, at least that's what I would do.
