why not just make a decently big ported box for the one sub?

(i have 2 g5's in one box but only have one sub hooked up and it still hurts my head at 500 watts)

(i'm also a noob at this kind of stuff, but know what i'm doing)

I thought of that but ultimately the answer would be no friggen way. 2 subs are always louder than 1 on any given wattage. I had 2 10 re audio in the box I will use and it slammed hard. They fried so I am now going with 2 hcca's. I couldn't just settle for one. I can wait till I can afford the second one. Anyways hcca are so awesome that you can use a smaller box if you apply more power to them. dont ask me how or why but thats what orion says. 800-1500 watts you need 1.25 cubes per sub and above 1500 you only need .75. So I can always get a bigger amp in the future and the box will be perfect to match the subs and wattage. wooohoooo cant wait!

thats not really true. its really dependent on the box as to which will be louder. at least thats what everyone says, and I believe it.

I only mean that in that each sub is in the optimal enclosure. Mutal couping dictates that. Its a fact. If I put 1 hcca in a perfect ported box and then I put 2 hcca's in a box thats perfect the 2 will be louder hands down on the same wattage. On the other hand I think that it is still subjective but I am willing to bet that 2 hcca 10's in a 2.25 cube ported box thats tuned to 40 hz subs forward and ports up will be louder than 1 hcca 10 in a well made custom tuned to whatever and in an air space of whatever.

Ya strength in numbers doesn't work by itself. All the subs have to be in optimal enclosures for mutual coupling to be effective. Besides I would way rather have 2 of these bad boys just for the sheer look aspect of it then 1 any day.

With the same power as your RE's these will not be as loud but they work really well with 1500rms each! I would do a custom box for sure, what car are these going into?

They are going into a genesis coupe.

YouTube - 2 RE audio sx 10's in Genesis Coupe showing some flex.

They will be running off the same amp and using the same box as in the vid. People have said that this amp ( Hifonics Brutus bxi2006d ) puts out around 1700 rms. I think that they will be just as loud as the Re's were. At least I hope. I expect that much and I hope these ones won't fry as easily as the re's. I don't know if the re's fried from playing them hard for too long or if the amp was clipping and ruined the coils. I don't even know if coils can overheat from clipping. If that is the case I will get a bigger amp around 2200 rms solid and use that. The bxi2610 will put out 2200 rms no prob. That should be enough for 2 of these subs. The problem is I can't go any bigger than that for an amp as I don't want to rebuild my alternator just yet on this new car. I would probably just get a big Kinetic battery.

I tried the custom route and was not impressed with the results and this box I have pounded with the re's to my liking so I will stick with that for now.
