Overpowered

Ok, my old man wants some tunes in his truck so he's looking at a pair of infinity kappa components speakers. My question is, they're rated for 85W rms, if he uses a planet audio amp that puts out 150 x 2 rms do you think this is too much power? Better to overpower than underpower isn't it?

That'll be just fine. Keep your gains way down, and it'll get you super clean sound.
I'll be putting 250 RMS each channel to a set of 8's that are rated at 100 RMS. Power is what counts most in a good install.

Damn i was loking at the wrong amp, this one only puts out 75W x 2. There is another one that is only $100 more that is 300Wx2 rms figure that'll be way too much power? Debating between underpowering or major overpowering...

75x2rms would likely be enough power for him but get whichever is cheaper I'd say.
If you used the Kenwood you could always use the front channels on the comps and bridge the rear on an efficient 8 or 10" sub.
