^^ OK WE WILL DO THAT BUT IM SURE MANY OTHER SUBWOOFERS CAN TAKE JUST AS MUCH POWER AND IT EXPLODED BECAUSE ITS ONLY SUPPOSED TO TAKE ABOUT 400 RMS.
I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE TYPE LIKE THIS! I THNK WE SHOULD ALL DO IT ALL OF THE TIME.

Actually, the amp is one of the larger Kenwood 2-channel amps (KAC-959 or something like that, non-Excelon), rated at about 600x1 watts RMS @ 4 ohms. Fosgate P2 subs are rated for about 200 RMS. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the dust cap probably shattered from the back pressure inside the box, which would essentially create an poorly tuned vent through the pole piece. Sub becomes unloaded, spider rips, coil completely leaves the gap and sits on the top plate to bake until it turns into liquid hot magma... Oh yah, I should be a blown sub investigator... BSI. It's so easy to pick out a genuine blown sub from ones that have had "help" from the hoof of a customer.

With the older Kenwoods ...
KAC = Amplifier
First number = model (9 being most powerful)
Second number = number of channels (5 = 5-channel)
Third number = year (9 being 2001/2002)
Now it's ...
KAC = Amplifier
First number = model (8 being most powerful)
Second number = number of channels
Third number = 0 or 5 (5 = Remote Bass Boost Control included, 0 = No Remote Bass Boost Control included)
Fourth number = year (1 being 2003/2004)
D = Class D amplifier
So, if it were a 2-channel amplifier, it couldn't have been the KAC-959

Heh, ok Kenwood nomenclature nerd. Anyways, it was this amp:
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/pr...productId=2477
So actually "only" overpowered by about 260 watts.
