poly-fill in sub box.. does it work?

poly-fill in sub box.. does it work?

was wondering if anyone had any experience/opinion on the stuff?

specifically for a pioneer single 10"/bassworx box combo i just bought on sale at futureshop.

yes it does work.

Even in ported boxes (be sure to attach it to the sides) 1lbs of fibrefill per 1 CF is the most beneficial.

In a sealed box it allows the box to appear larger to the subwoofer. up to 20% larger

Walmart is the cheapest place I have found.

Will be called polyfill and ti is in the fabric section for making pillows and the like. Usually couple bucks per lbs.

I've had great results using it over the years. It's especially good for space constrained systems, where the box has to be a little smaller than optimum. It's effect seems to diminish as the box size increases though, so it seems to be best for smaller( up to 3.5-4.0 cubes) boxes.

in a ported box keep it out of the port or go with sheepskin and line the box

thanks all. so just to confirm, this isn't special car audio stuff. and it's called 'polyfill'?

is it the same as 'dacron'?

yes, pillow stuffing, dacron polyester fibrefill, available at any fabric store, department store and many hobby and craft stores.

if your going with a ported box make sure u have a wire fence before the port or it will all blow out like cotton candy

I have done quite a few ported boxes, this has never been an issue for me. Just finished building one today, no problems with the fill blowing out the vent.
