Pounding on a Budget (noob looking for help)
I need some help/direction setting up a sound system. I've done some browsing and reading but I need help narrowing down some specific items. Here's some info
-2001 Sante Fe
-listen to rock/rap
-looking for bass
For my needs, I think I only need 1 sub, a mono amp, a pair of components, and a deck.
In terms of budget, I'm looking for the best value for money (which normally is the next step up from the cheapest options). I prefer to do my shopping online as I live in a small town (crutchfield/audiosavings/ebay/bst).
Suggestions? I've seen a lot of people recommending Type-r's

How much space do you have? Are you going to get an alternator and/or a battery? Would you seal the cabin from the trunk? Do you like ported or sealed? Do you want impressive bass or moderate? Will you ever upgrade?
Look at the SSA DCON 12". If you're on a budget than you can't go wrong. I'd get two of these for a 4.5 cubic-foot ported box @ 30-35 HZ, a 600W @ 1 ohm amp, a cheap deck, decent components, and a component amp. You wouldn't need an alternator or battery. If you sealed the cabin from the trunk and used deadening, it would be really sweet.
300W RMS
Efficiency 89.1 dB
$125

Thanks, answers to your questions is below.
How much space do you have?
Willing to give up half of trunk space for sub
Are you going to get an alternator and/or a battery?
No
Would you seal the cabin from the trunk?
No
Do you like ported or sealed?
Ported
Do you want impressive bass or moderate?
Impressive, but don't want to skimp on components either
Will you ever upgrade?
Maybe. This relates more to the amp more than anything correct?
Do you need everything? Deck, amps, subs, wiring, and components? If so, you may be sub limited to 1, and a half decent 5 channel amp, some cheap mids, and a deck. Best bet is to watch the classifieds for good used gear. Some can be had for cheap. Much cheaper than new, and better quality than a new equivalant.
X2 for the DCON.I got a 10" and the output is impressive with low watt.Good sound quality too.
Before buy anything, start to buy a good deck if you want good sound quality. It's probably the most important parts of a good sounding system.

Typically:
Dash mount : 25
Wire harness: 15
Buy as much of a headunit as you can afford and need (ie bluetooth, usb etc)
Look for something that has built in crossover points for all channels and also a decent preout voltage (the higher the output voltage, the less you'll have to crank the gains on your amps) 3 sets of R/L outputs are ideal but you can get away with less
Headunit: 125-250
Powerwire kit: 50+ I imagine you'll want 4ga
Components for front : 150-250
Amp for components: otherwise really no point in getting any (a cheap 2 channel will suffice)
Sub in box (used): 150+
Sub amp: 100+
Distroblock, RCA's, other connections you didn't realize you'd need: 50-60
Like previous poster said, check for used gear (you may be able to find a whole system for cheap or maybe a sub/box/amp combo)
So what small town are you in anyway?
