I just thought that I would add a little more info regarding my above post. The symptoms are typical of a ground loop issue, such as whining and a thumping sound when changing sources or radio stations. Once you blow the RCA ground from your source, in this case your head unit, your amps will pull its signal ground from your power ground, and thus create a ground loop. If you want to verify that this your problem, simply install a ground loop isolator, and you will more than likely loose all sound to your speakers (thus telling you that power ground was being used exclusively in place of your missing signal ground). I know how frustrating these type of problems can be, and that is why I carry a ground loop isolator in my install tool box, not as a noise isolator but rather as a diagnostic tool.

Just because they've changed the name, doesn't mean they haven't got the features.

Granted, this doesn't help the OP, cause both decks are pretty pricy.
You quote is true of 2007 product but in 2005 and 2006 The Bass engine disappered. Whent he CDA-9815 and CDA-9835 were replaced with the gimicky glide touch that was imprecise and the S/N dropped I dropped all my Apine gear too. The Imprint is kool technology but again you need an add on.
There is always a KDC-X991 from Kenwwod with the Off-set Dual Differential chipset. It essentiall used seperate processors for each of the + and - of the sign wave for the left and right channel independantly all in the digital format before convertng the signal to analogue at the output.
