If you’re not interested in this, I highly recommend running @ 4 ohms. Rather than one coil from each sub to get 2 ohms like the others are recommending. This is because if you run only one coil you will have far more power on tap to damage that coil. Since you will only have capability to run half power with that method anyway you might as well just run your subs at 4 ohms and that way there is NO risk of damaging a coil.

To get one ohm, connect all coils in parallel. To get 4 ohms, wire each subs two coils in series and then put each of those pairs in parallel to your amp.

OK. I was thinking about doing this, I just didn't know if the amp would handle it. DO you know how much approx power i'll get from running it at 1 ohm?

In theory it will double, so you’ll get 600 watts @ 1 Ohm vs 300 watts @ 2 ohms. But it doesn’t work that way, you’ll likely get around 500 or something like that.

If it works without tripping the protection, I would proceed with caution. Don’t run it like this at max volume for extended periods it is hard on the power supply. I once saw the solder melt off the transformer connections on the circuit board. But we were driving it HARD for over 30min like this. One bonus though, the work was covered under warranty.

hold on.... have you ever heard about helmholtz coil configuration? now i never hooked up one VC before, so i don't know if it works normally- but with theory about DVC that's incorrect, and will result in total different effect :]

I can't Bite my Tongue anymore... This is Honestly some of the most absolute Terrible advise, I have ever seen, and I have seen some real crazy things said on here.. But this may be the worst ever.

Do *NOT* only run one VC on a DVC Subwoofer, it is not designed to work in that configuration, and is *NOT* recommended by the manufacturer, so do *NOT* do it!

Do not rely on, it *SHOULD* be okay, or I *THINK*. People on here could care less at the end of the day about your Stuff, and if it gets ruined, or not. And that's more than obvious by the responses.

here is my take, Run 1 sub, in a single Box.. at 2 ohms on both VC's.. that way the sub will be fine, and you will not fry the amp.. which is what will happen at 1 ohm with that amp. save some cash, get the right amp for the application in a month, or two.. and at the end of the day you'll still have some thump in the car, none of your gear will be ruined.. and in the end you'll be farther ahead cause you are not breaking Gear, and having to replace it again!

I'm with Gumby on this .... you likely could run one coil, but I wouldn't. That's a lot of money spent for JL to not cover under warranty should something happen. Not to mention RF corp. You realize they are rated at 600 rms each right? Assuming they're the 12's. That amp even at a 2 ohm load is only gonna give one sub half its power. I'd stick to only running one for now, until you can GET MORE POWER!! lol

I’ve ran lots of amps beyond their recommended load. If you’re smart about it they can take it. But, I like to push the envelope a bit.

I don’t think my advice was poor, I was honest in every way.

If you want fool proof advice, run the 2 sub, 4 ohm configuration I spoke of. That is the easiest on your gear and you can run both subs right now and don’t need to bother installing only one for starters.

OK. Thanks. they are both the 13.5 inch W6s.
Ya Right now I am running them both in the box, but with only one hooked up for now until I get the money for an amp.

Does anyone know of a good amp with 1Ohm stable for about the 200- 250$ range?
